*** Lesson Details ***

With over 20 years teaching experience, Nick is patient with children & adults. He has a creative, unique pedagogy emphasizing hearing through singing, ear-training & natural, organic listening. Nick instills healthy absorption of music while students have fun learning their music, sight reading, internalizing with focus on rhythm and time.

As a student, you will get to work on music that you, the student select as well as work on sight-reading, technique, ear-training. We will also work out of method books and use other sources of information.

*** Studio Equipment ***

Chairs, music stands, instrument stands, classical foot pedals, classical guitar pillows, guitar amps, guitar, banjo, mandolin, ukulele, drum set. Students usually provide their own instruments but it's possible to borrow an instrument during the lesson at the studio on the first lesson. (free street parking right in front!)

*** Specialties ***

Nick's pedagogy emphasizes ear-training, singing, reading and truly hearing the music we are working on. Rather than rote teaching and guitar tablature, he instills natural listening, transcribing, sight-reading and proper technique. Lessons are always enjoyable as Nick observes each student's unique needs and listen's to their song preferences and musical goals. Students have the opportunity to learn pieces and genres they select and they are trained to figure out tunes by ear (ear-training) and transcribe.

Nick teaches:

-classical guitar and Brazilian guitar (nylon 6 string and nylon 7 string guitar)

-acoustic steel string guitar, electric 6 string and electric 7 string guitar

- jazz guitar + an eclectic mix of styles: blues, Brazilian music, Latin Jazz, Afro-Peruvian, Indian music, rock, heavy metal, funk, R & B, Motown, reggae + other genres.

- tenor banjo (traditional jazz, jazz from New Orleans, Dixieland and world music)

-5 string banjo (Earl Scruggs finger picking [bluegrass and country])

-tenor guitar

-ukulele

-mandolin

-resonator slide/dobro.

-lap steel

-baritone resonator (slide)

I love to playing music and helping others who are interesting learning. Lighting the spark and inspiring students by teaching the tools so they can organically hear, understand and play the music they love on their instrument brings me great joy! I enjoy listening to my students and learning what music, genres, artists, bands and pieces really resonate with them. Empowering them with the ability to learn, deeper their understanding and perform their favorite music while introducing them to other music is so satisfying. Guiding each of my students along their own unqiue musical journey and assisting them to find their own individual voice on thier instrument is such a beautiful process to be part of!

Nick is an exceptional guitar teacher who has had a profound impact on my sons learning experience. Despite my sons initial reluctance and tendency to become easily distracted during lessons, Nick has succeeded in fostering a newfound love of guitar in him.
What sets Nick apart as a teacher is his ability to strike a balance between technical correctness and making the learning process enjoyable for his students. He is not content to simply teach my son how to strum a few chords - instead, Nick ensures that my son is building a solid foundation of technical skills that will serve him well as he continues to progress as a musician.
At the same time, Nick recognizes that learning an instrument should be fun and engaging, and he makes a concerted effort to make lessons enjoyable for my son. Through his creative and engaging teaching style, Nick has inspired my son to practice more and to take pride in his progress.
Overall, I would highly recommend Nick as a guitar teacher. He is knowledgeable, patient, and skilled at making guitar lessons both enjoyable and educational. Thanks to Nicks guidance, my son has developed a newfound passion for guitar that will undoubtedly serve him well in the years to come.

Our daughter took guitar lessons with Nick for a year, and he was always inventive and encouraging. He always checked in with her to hear what kinds of music she was interested in, and what would motivate her to practice at home--in a fun and non-judgmental way. Nicks enthusiasm was contagious! I highly recommend him has a guitar teacher for kids.

Nick is very dedicated instructor. His mild mannered disposition makes the learning experience very stress free. He is very patient, which being an older student with limited musical background very welcomed. I find his extensive musical knowledge adds to the learning experience.

Nick Russos approach to teaching empowers my nine year old daughter to guide the lessons. What music is important to her, what songs she likes are the framework for her banjo lessons. Nick is energetic, engaging and affirming of her efforts. He builds upon my daughters interest and curiosity by weaving elements of music theory into a natural conversation. Nick is teaching her as beginner banjo player but also is creating the foundation and opportunity for the musician she could become one year, five years from now. And, they have fun!
