Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
With new students we see how far they can go in the kitchen by the experience that they have from cooking at home. I like to get to know their palette, things that they may try and things that they think they may not ever try. Then opening them up to all of these new fascinating areas in the Culinary world.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a culinary degree from Johnson & Wales University and I also went to a program to get my entrepreneurial certificate and Catering.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I like to do an international culinary series which is five classes of different areas of the world. We make a dish from each place so the price for that class series would be $275 and for a dessert series is $225. I do also give single classes of a three-piece meal for $75 and a dessert class for $50, your dessert class can be taken along with your single three-course meal class. Along with these yummy food adventures I give culinary knife skill for $125. I recommend this class first for all beginners because this will teach you the skills and safety you need to have in a kitchen.
How did you get started teaching?
When I was on culinary school watching the instructors was a great admiration. Being able to give someone knowledge through my passion is something that I always saw to do.
What types of students have you worked with?
I usually worked with beginner students from all over who want to gain or already have a passion for cooking. But..... I turn no student away!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I was able attend a women's empowerment dinner for the holiday at an chinese senses museum. We got to come together as a family, enjoy the museum and some new food that we haven't experienced before.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
The advice I would give is to pick a teacher who really has the passion for this field. Pick someone who isn't afraid of a challenge and is willing to give you the time, attention, and knowledge you deserve.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
1. Allergies- biggest one!
2. Eating lifestyle- if you are vegan, vegetarian, halal or kosher.
3. Time table- how much time do you have to spend in a class.
