Jake’s Fitness
About
I'm Jake Herman, and I operate a private fitness facility in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn, where we offer one-on-one personalized training; tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and fitness level. (and a parking lot on premises!)
Focusing strongly on form, muscular balance, and posture, we will be employing techniques and exercises influenced by modern exercise science and biomechanics, Hatha Yoga, powerlifting, and high intensity interval training protocols, as well as more traditional bodybuilding and endurance exercises.
Whether your goal is to pack on lean muscle, shred fat, or maintain healthy body-composition (and bone mineral density) as you get older (or a combination of the above), I'm sure we can design and implement a program to get you to where you want to be. No matter what your goals or current fitness level is, I work with the needs and goals of each individual, so feel free to reach out and ask me any questions you might have.
I love helping people feel good, look god, and promote wellness. Exercise should be fun! And get you the right results.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
After I receive your initial form, we will set up an interview to make sure the schedule, goals, and personalities are in harmony. After that, it's full speed ahead. (Every client is different, so some may need a sower learning curve, or more flexibility work from the get-go.)
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a B.S. in exercise science from Brooklyn college and am currently working on a MS from NYU medical school in biomechanics and ergonomics.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Base rate is $85/session, but all of my clients are on a monthly plan, where depending on the number of sessions per week, it can go as low as $79/session,
How did you get started teaching?
Jake's Fitness began in June 2011 when a close friend and workout partner convinced me to offer my services to others. He pointed out that my love of fitness, dedication to form, and appreciation for proper biomechanics would make me a great trainer and fitness coach. I was skeptical, but then I acquiesced; I took a client, and never looked back. I love helping people get healthier, feel better, and look better.
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages and genders, from teenagers to the elderly. PEople looking to lose weight, and others looking to get stronger and/or put on muscle. Some that are looking for pain relief for their backs, knees, shoulders, and more.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I'm proud of my past clients. Their reviews can be found here: https://www.yelp.com/biz/jakes-fitness-brooklyn-2
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Hire someone with experience and their own practice. You don't want to hire an employee: you want a professional.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Their availability, the commute time, budget, and when they would like to work out. Having clear goals is also very helpful.
