Sheri P. says, "Alfredo is a fantastic instructor! I had tried to self teach by following YouTube videos, but nothing I found taught me with the intricate methods of the masters. He starts everyone out with a fairly easy master copy that he paints along with you so you can ask questions as you paint. And this first painting has the added bonus of starting you out with a high level of confidence and motivation because he makes sure it is terrific at the end. He has taught me about glazing, value studies , imprimatura, ala prima painting and more! I’ve been studying with Alfredo for nearly a year and I’m constantly amazed at how fast my skills have improved. It was honestly the best decision I made when I started painting." Read more

My work includes large format panorama landscaspes. Some of my NYC work is in The New York Historical Society Print Collection. I capture natural color that looks filtered. My panoramas are stitched together in photoshop, which I am an expert in on many levels. If you go to my website you will see samples of my work, from Celebrities to Still-life and landscsape. https://www.lindnerphoto.com/index

Kim G. says, "Alfredo is one of the most prodigious and skilled artists I have ever met. He makes his personal skills easy to understand and communicate and the way I have grown as an artist in the past 3 years with him is beyond anything I ever expected of myself, let alone something I ever expected an artist to be able to communicate to another person as a teachable skill. If you’re on the fence about hiring him, please do yourself a favor and do it!" Read more

Your Art Classes questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.com.

How much do art classes cost near me?

Art classes cost $20 to $50 for a one-time session or $100 to $500 for a class including 6 to 10 weekly sessions. Prices for art classes depend on your location, the type of art, the school or museum offering the class, and whether the fee includes materials and art supplies. Most art instructors provide a list of the required supplies which you must purchase separately.

Can you take art classes online?

You can take art classes online through CreativeLive, Udemy, ed2go, and art specialty websites like New Masters Academy (NMA) or The Art Studio NY. Many museums, universities, studios, and individual artists also offer online art classes.

Prices for online art classes are similar to in-studio classes and primarily depend on the instructor's artistic reputation and whether the course features prerecorded videos or is held live.

What types of art classes are available?

Popular art classes offered in most locations include:

  • Drawing and sketching
  • Painting with watercolor, oil, acrylics, or pastels
  • Printmaking
  • Fabric painting
  • Ceramics
  • Sculpture
  • Jewelry making
  • Glasswork
  • Fiber arts

How do I find the best art classes near me?

Before you take the next step in your creative journey, follow these tips to ensure you find an art class that's a good fit for you:

  • First, determine what type of art you'd like to learn.
  • Decide if you want to take a one-time workshop or a multi-week course.
  • Read instructor reviews on Lessons and Google.
  • Browse their portfolio of artwork created by their past students.
  • Ask about fees, class sizes, and supplies needed.
  • Visit the studio or classroom in person to check it out before signing up for a class.
  • Wear clothes that can get dirty. Some classes have aprons, but you may still get paint or other art products on your clothes.

What questions should I ask before signing up for art classes?

Before you sign up for an art class, be sure to ask the instructor these questions:

  • Which class should I take as a first-time art student?
  • Does the fee include materials and supplies? If not, do you provide a supply list?
  • What subjects do the art lessons cover?
  • Where will the class meet?
  • Are the classes restricted to certain age groups?
  • How many students will be in the class?
  • Do you offer online art classes? Are the online classes taught live or prerecorded?
  • Can I buy a class as a gift for someone?

Marjanne Motamedi 22 West 15 Street, Apt.6F New York, NY 10011 Email: [email protected] September 23, 2020 Dear Sir or Madam: My Name is Marjanne Motamedi. It gives me great satisfaction to write this letter of recommendation for Mrs. Nahid Hagigat. Let me go back in time…. My mother had a stroke at the age of 86 in 2016 One of her passion and hobby in life was to paint. After her stroke she was simply unable to remember how to even hold a brush. A friend of mine who knew of Mrs. Hagigat gave me her information. Few days later I had the pleasure to meet with her and she agreed to give few painting lessons to my mother. Four years later, here we are, my mother eagerly looks forward for her weekly lesson. She has painted over 100 paintings…… Mrs. Hagigat is an exceptional teacher. Her enthusiasm, passion and dedication for the craft of teaching is limitless. She engages and motivates her student(s). What she has accomplished with my mother is nothing short of a miracle. In conclusion, I recommend Mrs Hagigat without reservation. Respectfully submitted, Marjanne Motamedi

My daughter has been taking art classes with Kasey for about 2 months and she has learned so much in a very short time. She is enjoying every moment during the class with Kasey and is improving her skills at a very fast pace. Kasey is very nice and kind and his teaching approach is wonderful. He explains the methods and allows her try on her own and then they discuss together how to improve. He is always very responsive if she has questions during the week if we have questions about new art supplies. We commute to Kasey’s studio for about 45min every weekend and me and my daughter feel what she’s learning is worth the ride. Highly recommended!!!
