My name is Brandy Godsil and I am an arts and crafts instructor with 10+ years experience teaching students of all ages and backgrounds. I have recently relocated to Raleigh, NC from NYC and am teaching the following:
Sewing and Fashion Design: Hand sewing, Machine sewing, Custom garment making, Patternmaking, and Clothing alterations.
Fiber Arts: Weaving, Fabric Dyeing (ice dyeing, natural dyeing, and eco-printing), and Needle Felting.
Drawing and Painting: Figure drawing, landscape, still life, portraiture, illustration. Working in pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, watercolors, acrylic paint, pastels other mediums.
For sewing, experience includes working for high end and luxury tailor shops in NYC, as well as fitting on-set for photoshoots, ecommerce, celebrity fittings and red carpet events. I have created many couture garments from sketch to finish.
In Fiber Arts, I teach students how to build their own looms, weaving fundamentals, conceptual weaving, fabric dyeing and eco-printing from local materials, and needle felting.
I studied drawing and painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art, and a certificate in painting from Parsons School of Design in NYC. I teach students how to draw and paint with life observations and photo references. Lessons involve learning about light and shadow, anatomy, line quality, perspective, and more.
I teach students of all levels, ages, and experiences. I am available for in person and Zoom/Online lessons.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I create lesson plans based on the student's experience and personal goals/interests.
Each student is unique and I work with the student to create structured lessons based on their experiences, project goals, and subject matter of interest.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a graduate from the Maryland Institute College of Art with a BFA in Fiber/Textile and Fashion Design. I received a certificate from Central Saint Martins for Experimental Fashion Design online course and a Painting program at Parsons School of Design.
I have worked in many tailor shops in NYC for brands such as MARNI, ETRO, MICHAEL KORS, and bespoke menswear companies. I have taught sewing to people of all ages and aptitudes. I have worked in the fashion industry for 11+ years as a designer and couturier.
I am Co-founder and Advisor of a non profit weaving arts organization caled SAORI Arts NYC: www.saoriartsnyc.org I teach weaving, fiber arts, and sewing to people with disabilities in art studios around the U.S.
