My name is Brandy Godsil and I am an experienced sewing teacher with 10 years of working in the fashion industry as a tailor, patternmaking and designer. I am a very patient, caring, and creative instructor that is looking for students that are eager to learn about sewing and garnent construction.
I teach students of all levels and experiences. Whether you are a beginner looking to learn the basics of sewing and stitching techniques, or someone looking to strengthen their garment construction skills to complete projects, I create lesson plans tailored to your needs and goals.
Sewing techniques taught include: hand stitching, threading and operating a sewing machine, creating a project from start to finish, finishing techniques.
If you are interested in learning the basics of draping and patternmaking, I am available to teach those as well.
My experience includes working for high end and luxury tailor shops in NYC, as well as fitting on-set for photoshoots, ecommerce, celebrity fittings and red carpet events. I am a graduate from the Maryland Institute College of Art with a BFA in Fiber/Textile Arts and Fashion Design Concentration. I received a certificate from Central Saint Martins in Experimental Fashion Design for their online course.
Looking forward to teaching you!
The most enjoyable part is passing on the skills that I've learn and seeing the growth and excitement that each student has when learning these skills. Sewing is a great skill to know and can be used for a variety of purposes. Whether it's pillow making, creating clothing, altering clothing, sewing curtains and the like, sewing can be fun and a great creative outlet. Let's sew together!
Brandy is congenial, patient and encouraging. Her love for fashion and sewing is evident!
With new students, I create a lesson plan based on the student's experience and personal goals/interests. Each student is unique and I discuss with them whether there are specific projects or techniques in mind they would like to learn.
I am open minded and patient with a lot of sewing experience to pass on. Whether the student sees sewing as a hobby or as more of a serious pursuit, I am flexible based on the goals.
