Michael has been teaching more than thirty years in the Rochester area, and performs professionally with Multiple groups, including Prime Time Funk, the house band for the Rochester Music Hall of Fame.
Michael has given lessons on most String, wind and keyboard instruments, and has several students go on to become successful Musicians and Music teachers.
I love that every student is different. I have never met the same student twice, and it is good to remember that I must change how I teach a lesson based on how the student learns.
I also enjoy watching the progression over time to see my students change as their relationship with their instrument grows with time and effort.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to have a meet & greet to assess what kind of a learner the student is. I assign material based on age, level, and musical tastes. My style of teaching is one of positive reinforcement.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Bachelor of Music from the Crane School of Music.
I have taught in several music programs over the years, including a year at School of the ASrts in Rochester, NY.
I have been a private teacher for more than 30 years.
I play with several local bands on wind and string instruments.
I am a member of Prime Time Funk, the house band for the Rochester Music Hall of Fame.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Tuition is a monthly flat rate of 80.00/month for half-hour lessons, 160.00/month for hour lessons. Tuition is not based on the number of lessons per month, but is to reserve your weekly lesson time for every month you are on my teaching schedule.
Some months may have as many as five lessons, and some may have as few as three. Over the course of a year it averages out to about four lessons per month
How did you get started teaching?
I have been a violinist since the age of six, a saxophonist since the age of nine. I went to Music school to be trained as a Music educator.
What types of students have you worked with?
All types. Every age, gender, ethnicity. I have had some experience working with kids with developmental disabilities as well, including several kids with Autism.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
In 2018 I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to share the Easman Theatre stage with Paul Simon, Drummer Steve Gadd and Bassist Tony Levin. Gadd and Levin were being inducted into the Rochester Music Hall of Fame, and Paul Simon agreed to come and play. I was on Baritone Saxophone in the horn section for this. We played "50 ways to leave your lover" And "Late in the evening" to a sold-out audience of about 2000 people.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a teacher who you are comfortable working with. Find a person who understands what challenges you may have, and what kind of learning style you have.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What kind of commitment will you have for your music? Will it be sufficient to meet your goals?
What styles do you want to learn? Can the teacher help you to learn them effectively?
