Northfield Music got its start in music education as T Rizzo Music in 1975. The name was changed in 1983 when Joe Chiappone, one of the T Rizzo guitar teachers purchased the business from its founder Tom Rizzo. Tom became a road musician in the late 70's touring with the Maynard Ferguson band, Blood Sweat and Tears and eventually ended up with Doc Severinsons Quintet and he relocated to LA. Frequently asked questions

How much do guitar lessons cost?

The average cost for guitar lessons is $40 per hour. Available for all ages and all skill levels of guitar playing, the pricing of individual or group guitar lessons can start as low as $20/hour. Teachers charge based on their location, years of teaching, levels of knowledge and expertise, and travel time (if applicable). Lessons can last from half an hour to a full hour, and are priced accordingly.

How long does it take to learn guitar?

If you just want to learn a few chords to strum along to some songs, then learning to play the guitar really isn't that hard for most people. Many students are able to learn a few chords and get a decent strumming pattern going after a few weeks. If you've had prior experience playing an instrument, you can expect to pick it up after just a few lessons.

Should I take guitar lessons online or in person lessons?

Private in person guitar lessons with a skilled instructor that is focused on you, your interests, and your progress is the most sought after experience and hard to replicate online. Plus, you tend to learn faster in person. On the other hand, online guitar lessons are quickly becoming popular. The selection of teachers is not limited to those in your geographical area and you can communicate via video in real time with your teacher in the comfort of your home. When filling out your request on Lessons.com, we recommend you select both online and local options, then compare your options and see what works best for you.

How old should children be before starting guitar lessons?

A child as young as 4 can begin to learn if they are really motivated and have a patient, creative, and devoted teacher. However, we've found almost all kids under six are too young to benefit from formal guitar lessons, as they require dexterity and levels of concentration children their age can't provide. That being said, lessons do not need to be formal right off the bat, and can just provide a fun introduction. Also, your child may benefit from using a ukulele to start, as it's smaller and easier to learn, but very similar instrument.

What or who inspired you to start teaching?

My love and passion for music is my biggest inspiration to teach.

What do you love most about your job?

There is no greater reward for teaching than watching students blossom into excellent musicians.

What types of students have you worked with?

In the past 20 years of my teaching I have taught all kinds of people from young kids strumming a guitar for the 1st time to seniors getting ready for there college audition. Teaching rock, blues heavy metal, jazz, funk, classical, RnB, soul, reggae, electronic and music production allows me to get a broad spectrum of students.

Tell us about your passion for teaching

Teaching music allows me to explore varies music concepts and styles and helps me evolve as a musician. The Idea of music being an endless pursuit of knowledge keeps me inspired to study and teach for a life long journey.

What advice would you give aspiring students?

One peace of advice I give my students is that the music business does not have to be a all or nothing thing. where you either make it as a rock star and make millions or your a failure. There is a lot of options as to make a living being a hard working musician teaching and playing. The more versatile you are as a musician the more work you will have.

Be The Guitarist You Want To Be!

Teaching guitar in Rochester NY (specifically in Honeoye Falls and in students’ homes), Ali Main is, by her own admission, not your average guitar teacher, but one look at her FindaGuitarTeacher profile will leave no doubt in your mind that she is a confident and astute musical artist and guitar teacher, who’s love of the music and teaching is self-evident in what she has to say about her guitar lessons.

Guitar Lessons With Ali Main in Rochester NY Are Fun and Fulfilling

“I’m not your average guitar teacher. My name is Ali Main and I’m 19 years old and I’m a college student. I’ve been playing guitar for about ten years now and absolutely love it. I currently attend Lyndon State College studying Music Industry and Artist Management.”

With lessons that specialize in beginners and aspiring acoustic guitarists “looking to play the music they love and maybe write some songs.” Ali presents the promise of an enjoyable, effective, and rewarding opportunity to get into your guitar playing and develop the ability to play the music you love.

Her appealing approach to teaching you guitar comes through loud and clear in much of her profile content, and we think you’ll agree when you read such quotes for yourself as:

” … students engage and have fun while at the same time (they) start to learn technique and logistics with the guitar. I think its important to have fun and learn at the same time.”

While challenging, learning guitar should be a fun and rewarding, and taking guitar lessons with Ali Main in Rochester NY should give you every reason to believe that is possible.
