Tony trains me in eskrima (stick fighting) and boxing. He’s a very dedicated and passionate coach, who’s very eager to share his knowledge and expertise in martial arts. He knows what you’re capable of and will push you just a little bit more so you get better at each session. It also helps that he’s a personal trainer because he can give you pointers on how to strengthen areas of weakness. I highly recommend Tony as a coach and trainer.

Tony is extremely knowledgeable, varies the sessions so that they are never boring, and is very flexible. He tailors the sessions to what he sees that I need although he has overall goals for me to aspire to. I feel lucky to have found him.

I have been working with Tony Ortiz for the last five years. Tony is an excellent trainer, very knowledgeable, gentle and with great sense of humor: he would make you the hardest exercise but With A Smile! Tony is very sweet in his manners and knows a lot about the human body and about healin. I have been kickBoxing with him, weight lifting, cardio work, Martial Arts and even Meditation. I highly recommend him as a trainer!

I've used Tony as a trainer for 15 years. That fact alone should tell you how highly I think of him -- not just his attention to detail as a trainer, and the variety of his workouts, but him as a person. He is a great guy; he is focused and disciplined, and gets the best out of you. But he's a pleasant and thoughtful person to spend an hour (or more with). I've brought my son and step-daughter to work out with him a few times (they are both ten) and he has such a kind and encouraging approach with both of them too. I could not recommend Tony more highly. He's the man!

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

After initial conversation about the goals and needs of student/client I start assessing all that is needed to develop programs for short term goals with the final goal always in mind. As we progress in training I make changes based on how effective the process is for us. With homework given the student for faster results.

I started training in martial arts and boxing at age 7. I have studied and explored, Hung gar kung fu, wing chun kung fu, boxing, kickboxing, thai boxing, judo, kali/eskrima, silat., rapier and dagger. I startted a career in personal training and group fitness in 1999. I've worked for exclusive gyms through out nyc, Equinox, Clay, Core fitness, The Cell fitness to name a few. For some of these clubs I've assisted management staff with new trainer development workshops and classes. Along side personal training, private coaching and group fitness classes.
