Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I always start with a "baseline assessment" and video of current skill set. We compare what we find in the baseline assessment and video analysis with the athletes goals and build a plan.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been Coaching professionally for 25 years. Started my career at Kenyon College coaching both football and baseball as assistant special teams coordinator, wide receiver coach and baseball hitting instructor and outfield coach. This led to stops at Washington and Lee University in Virginia where I was named special teams coordinator of the year and a member of the staff of the year. I earned special teams coordinator of the year honors again at my next stop in Southern Tennessee at The University of the South and continued adding experience and awards in football and baseball both at Westminster College, Grinnell, head coach at Lawrence University and finished my college coaching career at Ohio Northern University. I was a two sport athlete in college, playing both football and baseball. Drafted by the Colorado Rockies and spent 3 years in the minor leagues. I left college coaching to spend more time with my family, I have two daughters (17 and 12) and a 3 year old son!. I have an Associate Degree in Sports Management and a Bachelor's in Sociology. I also graduated from Virginia Tech University with a Master Degree in Health Promotion and Sports Performance and Human Kinesiology.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
We have kept our pricing system simple, affordable and consistent over the years. Very simply every session is an hour in length and is $60. If paying session by session individually the price stays at $60 per. Most of my athletes prepay for a package of 10 sessions at $50 per making a one time payment of $500. Group session rates and team rates are always available and agreed upon between myself and the particular group or team. I will never turn away ANY athlete willing to put the time and effort into making themselves great and reaching their goals. Financial assistance is available for those who qualify.
How did you get started teaching?
It's all I've ever wanted to do!! In middle school I idolized my coaches and knew then THIS is what I was going to do professionally. I've been extremely blessed to have worked with some of the best coaches in the country in my career and eclecticly build my own coaching philosophy by taking bits and pieces from them all!
What types of students have you worked with?
All levels!! From beginning youth league to college QBs, WRs, and RBs and LBs. 10 year old hitting mechanic students to elite high school travel ball players and college pitchers and hitters.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Being a part of 4 more of my athletes sign to play at the college level!! We crank out college athletes!!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure it's the right fit!! Not every coach is for every athlete... including myself!! Must have a great connection and feel comfortable with your private coach. Parents do your research!! Listen to how they speak and adopt the same verbage to use at home while working with your athletes! Build trust and know the difference between a "YouTube" coach and an actual expert!! Must be able to build relationship and trust!!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
How serious are you about reaching and surpassing your personal goals? What are your short term and long term goals? To what degree are you invested in YOURSELF? Before asking me or ANY private coach to be fully vested in your development, make sure you are already there!! Are you coachable? Can you handle criticism understanding that we must first understand our failures to truly appreciate our successes?
