Thankusomuch Music Lessons

Alex is a passionate music educator. He teaches private lessons to students learning bass (electric & acoustic), piano, music theory, songwriting, music production, chart writing, and arranging. His Lessons focus on musicality, creativity, practical application of music theory, the historical context of lesson material, improvisation, time feel, and proper technique.

Having received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Composition from Lewis & Clark in 2014 and a Master’s Degree in Jazz Studies from Portland State University in 2016, Alex has been teaching private lessons and conducting clinics and workshops over the past few years for a variety of groups and ensembles. He has also led classes and guest taught with the Portland Youth Jazz Orchestra and Portland Youth Philharmonic.

Alex is currently directing the Jazz Band II ensemble, and Jazz Combos at West Linn High School. He leads rehearsals, conducts the band, selects repertoire, and focuses on instilling an appreciation of jazz history, theory, and performance in his students.
