Kevin Schmidt M.A.T. founded Westside Basketball in 2000. I have serviced all level of athletes helping work on their weaknesses and accent their strengths.
I have coached over 30 winning teams including the State of Oregon AAU and BCI championship team. Other Awards includes the Nike "Coach of the Game." The Westside Basketball has been also honored with awards for lessons and as a business. The number of athletes who have gone on to play in college from this program is numerous and some have played at the international professional level.
My education is a BA and a master’s in teaching with emphasis in sports psychology and coaching. My training certification includes Personal Training, Group Training and Nutrition. I also have certification in Education Administration, OSAA officiating, Health Education, Concussion Management, First Aid, Heat Stroke or Heat Exhaustion and have served in a variety of educational leadership positions including a certificate as an administrator in the state of Oregon.
I will used timed skill events, professional tools like the pure shot, str8 shooter and dribble hurdles to increase proficiency. These types of tools combined with specific and individual documentation has produced top athletes setting records in High School all the way up to the D1 level in college. Please contact Coach Schmidt by phone or text at 503-332-4794.
Some of the most enjoyable and memorable opportunities is the invitation to coach in elite camps at U. Conn, Texas, ASU, Oregon and multiple times at Stanford. I have had the opportunity to pick the brain of coaches holding over 20 national titles. Recent I interviewed Coaches like Kelly Graves the Year Covid kept his #1 ranked Oregon team from completing the task. Danny Miles from Oregon Tech. During his 45 years as men's basketball head coach at Oregon Tech won 1040 games with a. 704 winning percentage. One of my favorite interviews is Oscar Schmidt. Basketball Hall of Famer who scored more points professionally in the history of the game and has more Olympic records than any other basketball player.
My greatest satisfaction was to provide a safe environment for so many great athletes to train. This includes my own daughters who earned Players of the Year awards for their respective high School teams. They have both followed in my footsteps and have become teachers and coaches. This is obviously a point of pride for any father.

The coach’s are extremely supportive and push you to get better. Every skill I have learned through Westside has made a difference in my game.
Coach Kevin is an extraordinary coach. Our son has been playing basketball since the age of 4. We move from France 6 years ago when he was 7 and started working with Coach Kevin then. Our son's shooting, ball handling and overall confidence increased significantly. Coach Kevin has an incredible way of both nurturing and challenging his players that we have not seen anywhere else.
My son really enjoyed his coaching sessions with coach Kevin and improved his skills and confidence in a major way. I would highly recommend Kevin!
I will evaluate strengths and weaknesses and design a plan to help each client reach their potential. My training experience has proven results. Visit the pictures on my website and you can see several top athletes in training.

I was a volunteer in Saturday basketball. After playing in college I started teaching and coached at a small school and worked my way up to the top level in the Metro League as a Head Coach. I noticed there was a huge void in training and that is what I love to do. I started this business in 2000.
All levels of athletes and I have trained coaches in clinics.
Portland Fire & Nike Coach of the Game
Selected coach for the NW Shootout
My children were both players of the year and have several records in basketball, played college in basketball and followed their father's career path into education and worked coaching and training basketball.
Look at the credentials and experience of the trainer. If they don't have a degree in some form of physical education in some form don't are waste your time.
What are your goals? Are you willing to devote the time developing your skills? Are you willing to do constructive work on your own?
