Hello! My name is Derrick Denham and I love sharing how to play the piano and how to make music! I have been teaching students of all ages (including adults!) for over 20 years. I teach all genres with an emphasis on being able to read notation. My students compete in local competitions, have gone to Tennessee Governor’s School for the Arts, and have earned certificates and diplomas from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM). I am a violinist new in town but with 20 years of experience performing and teaching violin as a university professor at the University of Antioquia. I hold a Masters and Doctorate degree in Music, minor in Suzuki Pedagogy from the University of Memphis. I can teach students all ages and all levels. Welcome! I have over 23 years of violin playing. I’ve been playing professionally for the last 16 years in a variety of groups and orchestras in different places in the world, including Brazil, Portugal, Italy and the United States. Alongside my performance career I’ve also enjoyed teaching this beautiful art of playing the violin. I truly believe music is a powerful tool to connect to other people and even change their lives! My teaching philosophy is to help my students to achieve what they envision in the future for themselves, whether it is a professional music career or just a passionate hobby.
