Jewels And Gems Art Studio
About
Art is my 1st love. I absolutely love being able to do what it is I love on a daily. To see that light bulb go off in my students when they have completed a project or even surprised themselves by creating something they thought they couldn't, brings me so much joy.
Teaching in the school system and teaching in my studio are almost like two different worlds. One is definitely more challenging where as the other gives more freedom. But both still give me the same joyful experience when a piece is complete!π
It gives me air!! Creating give me a piece of mind. Anytime I begin a new piece of art, it takes my mind away and allows me to do and be anything I want to be.
I thank God for this gift and the ability to share this trade with others, whether they are gifted or just interested. Like I said before, being able to see the light bulb click in someone who didn't think they were capable is an awesome feeling. I always want to have that feeling!!

How did you get started teaching?
When I graduated from Fisk University, I spent one semester at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), where I studied fashion design (2003). Soon after I transferred to UTM. I got involved with a youth program called Positive Image and I absolutely adored working with those girls. I also got involved working with the youth at my church. My experience working with the youth lead me to switch my path to education. Before I had even walked the stage to receive my degree I was hired at South Side High School.
When I opened my art studio I just wanted a chance to expand my experience beyond the classroom. Its a choice I'm glad I made.
