Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
1. Find where to student is musically. Discuss their intentions. With this information I will evaluate whether I want to have this person S a student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
School of hard knocks!!! I've been in the trenches as a songwriter/composer/ singer for a life time and, I love it! I had 6 years of piano lessons, 4 years on trumpet, I've been playing guitar since I was 12 years old, took banjo lessons from the great James Henley/Jimmy Henley for 2 years....In June of 2020 I am touring Germany, Netherlands, Denmark and Belgium as a solo/band act doing original material. Do you want-to be doing and expressing yourself Thur your life? Well, take a lesson... We'll see if you have what it takes or not.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $30 for an half hour. It's all by ear. The student is required to bring a recording device and is also required to practice 30-45 minutes a day. No more, no less...If the student loves to learn he/she will play/practice more that the required amount.
How did you get started teaching?
By being a great student/ assistant in every practice I've taken up. As a child I was constantly given "grownup" responsibilities living on a working farm/ ranch. Education is about learning how to 'learn'... This where I 'come from' in teaching.
What types of students have you worked with?
Beginners - advanced
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Finishing these questions..!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I don't mess around. I'm here to teach u, not to 'make money'. If u want to study with me, you must be sincere and respectful to the process. I will be very clear about what I expect.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What is their intention? Do they want to learn an instrument for attention, hobby, serious student, entertainer? Actually the student probably doesn't know what they need.. I can help resolve that in one lesson.
