I have over 15 years of teaching experience and 2 degrees in classical voice. I received my undergraduate from The Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music and my masters degree from Rice University's prestigious Shepherd School of Music. I served as an adjunct professor of voice and currently work as a teaching artist with multiple opera companies, including Opera Philadelphia, the Houston Grand Opera and the Los Angeles Opera. I have taught piano to all age groups for over 15 years.
My students regularly receive scholarships to prestigious colleges and conservatories all over the county. I pride my studio on being a safe and empathetic space for students to develop their instruments and push themselves to master new skills.
Voice students learn classic technique, musical theater technique and pop styling. We work finding each student’s authentic sound, connecting to the breath, performance techniques, connecting deeper with their emotions while singing, and how prepare for auditions and competitions for advanced students. We spend and equal amount of time developing proper technique and applying it to songs.
Singers will learn to sing songs in Italian/German/French/English, as well as musical theater standards and pop songs.
Piano students learn all of their major/minor scales, music theory, proper finger technique, classical songs, pop songs, memorization and performance techniques.
Consistent practice habits are discussed every lesson in a safe and encouraging way to keep students progressing every week.
I love watching students figure out how to sing/play the piano with more ease. Both singing and playing piano are such enjoyable and invigorating activities that challenge the mind body and heart. I encourage authenticity in each of my students and help them tap into their innate creative resources. I have watched even my most quiet, reserved students open up into vivacious singers and pianists.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I will generally assess the student's abilities in the first lesson and then assign them music according to where they are in their development. I work on ear training and music theory with all of my students, both voice and piano. For voice students, we work on vocal technique for half of the lesson, then proceed to work on a classic song for the remainder of the lesson. For students who wish to take both piano and voice lessons, we split the lesson in half, generally 30min voice and 30min piano for beginners.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have taught as an adjunct professor of voice and currently work as a teaching artist for multiple opera companies, including Opera Philadelphia, the Los Angeles Opera and the Houston Grand Opera. I have a bachlorate and masters degree in vocal performance, 15+ years of competitive piano experience. I am trained in social and emotional learning and guide my students with empathy and respect.

How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching elementary level piano in highschool, and taught all the way through college. I began working with singers in college and fell in love teaching. My grandmother taught me when I was young and it was always a special time together. What I love about my work is the life long relationships I get to build with my students and their parents. It's honor to bring music into people's lives.
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages and levels! I love working with a variety of people with differing levels and goals.
