About this pro

I have over 33 years of experience and sewing and interior decorating. I started in high school and love creating new items whether it be a skirt, dress or a complete new room.  I will teach my students the basics about the different types of materials, terminology and how to cut out a pattern, measure, zippers, buttons and also help them complete a project of their choice.

I love helping people create something that can help them or they like such as a dress or pillows and a bedspread.  It is my passion.  I have my own website (www.homedecorbysusanandsally.com) and I love what I do!

Susan can’t take my little spark of an idea for something I want and turn it into something even better than I’d imagined! Her stitchery is exquisite! Because of her keen attention to detail, Experience, and the pride she takes in getting things just right, her work always exceeds my expectations!

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

Start with basics about sewing, teach them about the different types of fabrics and interfacing, threads, and terminologyof sewing.  I will teach them how to read a pattern, the layout and the process before starting to proceed to sew their project together.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have over 33 years of experience in sewing; which started in High School for all 4 years; winning Reserve Grand Champion my senior year at our show for sewing.  I have sewn for my Grandmother and I have my own Home Decor business for the last 19 years, so my sewing experience ranges from clothing to home decor.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

I charge $30 per lesson which includes helping the student pick out material, pattern and accesories needed to complete the project.

How did you get started teaching?

By people asking me if I would teach them.  I taught my three sons to sew because they needed to know how to sew on a button.

What types of students have you worked with?

I open to teaching all types of students.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

When my father passed away, I made memory blankets and pillows for my two brothers and memory pillows for all my nieces and nephews; so that they will always have something to remember my dad.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Experience, different areas of sewing, patience and a love for the art.
