About

Even though my knitting journey started only 5 months ago (January 2017), I have taken to it like a natural and learned several advanced techniques. I am happy to work with beginning knitters at this time, but will spend the summer learning more advanced techniques and other fiber arts (crochet, cross stitch, needle point, etc) to expand my range and offerings. I have successfully knitted two baby blankets (different patterns), two pairs of baby booties (different patterns and techniques), a babie beany, and an adult lace wrap to date.

You'll find knitting very relaxing and soothing. I'm eager to share my love of it with novice knitters. Understanding the process is not at all difficult. It's more a matter of your hands getting accustomed to the way various yarns and needles feel and move. I've been stunned to learn how many very intricate and sophisticated looks one can get from knitting. You can create so much more than your grandma's doilies and afghans!

Seeing something useful or beautiful or both that you made with your own hands is such a rewarding feeling. Come and amaze yourself with what you create!

Frequently asked questions

Students will need their own set of needles and yarn initially. I can provide these for the first lesson. I will demonstrate how to start the yarn on the needle and have the student mimick the technique on his or her own needle. We will use this same process as we move to working the body of the piece and then "casting off" or "binding off" the work--getting it successfully of the needle to complete the piece.

Additional skills taught include reading pattern instructions and learning about different attributes of yarn so that students can pick the best yarn for their projects.

I learned the basics through a knitting circle at the small private school where I teach (violin). I have gained additional skills by taking private lessons at a local yarn shop.

I teach violin and viola, both at a private school and in my private home studio. Teaching is my passion and calling. I'm very astute to each individual's learning style and needs, and can adjust my teaching approach immediately to meet those needs. If I can add to what I love doing by expanding beyond music into the arena of fiber arts, then I'll be the luckiest girl around!

Regarding knitting, I have not yet officially taught any students; however, I have assisted some of the members of my knitting circle.

Look for a teacher whose personality matches yours. Also make sure your teacher fully understands and accepts YOUR goals for learning rather than hoping to mold you to fit his or her notions of success. Teachers should be patient and ready to find multiple ways of explaining the same concept or techinque to fit the student's learning style.

Will the teacher be happy to let me work at my own pace?

Will the teacher guide me through problem solving so that I come to the answer on my own, or just give me the answer and hope that I'll retain the information for future use?
