About this pro

Because I give private lessons, students learn faster as they have my full attention during the whole class.

My real passion is garment sewing, but I also enjoy quilting and Home dec projects.  I have sewn exclusively on Bernina machines and sergers.  I have worked in three Bernina stores as I have moved from city to city.

I furnished machines and notions for each class, along with some fabric.  The student then will pick out fabric and a specific pattern after deciding on a project.

As I teach from home, I can easily adapt a time that suits the student’s schedule, whether is is weekdays and evenings or weekends.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

The first class is introductory to the sewing machineand is usually take one hour.  It will be determined how much a student knows, if she a a complete beginner or knows basic techniques.  Learning the basics of the machine, threads, needles should take up the first class.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have over 25 years of sewing experience.  Have taken various classes during this time.  I have worked for three Bernina stores since 2001.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

My basic prices start at $30/hr., and and can go up to $50hr.

How did you get started teaching?

After learning so much working for Bernina, I wanted to pass on this information to others.

What types of students have you worked with?

I have taught mainly career women who have busy jobs who are looking for a creative outlet with a practical side.  They have been engineers, attorneys and a dentist or two.

My students have ranged from 17 years of age to over 60.  Quite a few of the younger women have been interested in sewing because of the desire to create a clothing line and go into the design business.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

Anytime I get to see a student’s face light up after she has made something that she has sewn is a great joy!

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

If she does not own a sewing machine, to wait until she has decided on the features and type of machine she will need to best perform her desired projects.
