How did you get started teaching?
I was 22 when I was informed I would not make it to 40 if I continued down the path I was on. Alcohol, drugs, eating disorders, treating my body poorly overall. I began to workout at home and six months later I became a trainer. 9 years later I specialize in injury prevention, corrective exercise, functional training for healthy aging bodies, nutrition, and special health concerns (eating disorders, prehab/rehab, cancer recovery) MY PROFILE STATES THAT I HAVE BEEN HIRED ONLY ONCE, THIS IS FALSE. HIRED ONLY ONCE FROM THIS PARTICULAR SITE. I HAVE BEEN TRAINING OTHERS FOR 11 YEARS NOW AND HAVE HELPED AROUND 200 INDIVIDUALS ENHANCE THEIR LIFE AND HEALTH.
What types of students have you worked with?
All types. Those going through chemo, eating disorders, high anxiety, obese, anorexic, injured, gone through trauma or abuse, goals of aesthetics and bodybuilding, atheletes and general population.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I am an injury prevention specialist along with a few other specilizations, when hiring a specialty trainer keep in mind the price is right. They are giving you more than the basics and educating you on how to properly care for your vessel.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Grill your trainer. What is their personal training age? (This is how long they themselves have been working out) What are they most proud of when it comes to serving their clients? Do they specialize in anything? Are you getting education or just a workout? Do they use personalized routines or cookie cutter routines with clients?
