Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with a new client, we typically bring them in for a consultation. We discuss their desired goals in health and fitness. We allow them to work out for an hour session, as well as look at our facility to see the best times of day that meet their convenience. The client also meets their new personal trainer. We then immediately place them on a program working toward their short term and long term goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have earned personal training education through the Cooper Institute. I earned a personal training certification through ACE (American Counsil on Exercise) specializing in strength and conditioning as well as padwork for fighters. I am First Aid, CPR, and AED certified in case of emergencies. Even when the education is not formal, I am always reading and trying to learn more on my own about the fitness industry as well.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Details of pricing will be shared in person.
How did you get started teaching?
I was working as a janitor in a gym because I knew I really wanted to be a personal trainer. I just needed to get my foot in the door. I was already training MMA fighers on the side, and I was called in as a striking coach for a group of UFC fighters that were National Champions. I brought one of these fighters into the gym where I was a janitor to train him, and the manager saw me training and realized that I was skilled. He opened the door for me to train at his gym, and I started with 1 client until I grew to have 80. I eventually opened my own facility to start my own personal training business, and we just opened a second location.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with a variety of different clients. I have trained professionals, fitness models, children as young as 4, UFC and MMA fighters, Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders, Allen Football Players who went on to win 3 championships, and seniors as old as 101. Whether you are a professional athlete or someone who just wants to lose some weight or get in shape, there is a place for you at Teamroc Fitness!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My favorite event every year is the annual Jumprope-a-thon in which all proceeds to go the Dallas Area Rape Crisis Center (DARCC). The jumprope transformed my personal life and taught me how to meet short-term goals and set long-term goals. I love having my clients start out on the jump rope because it increases focus and cognitive skills, works the heart, builds muscle, burns calories and fat, reducues stress, helps you clean up your diet, and floods your body with feel-good endorphins. I started out barely being able to do 100 reps on the jumprope, and my clients start in the same place, but the jumprope allows you to progress quickly. At the jumprope-a-thon my clients jump to raise money for DARCC and it's amazing to see how far they have come on the jumprope.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
- What are your health and fitness goals, both short and long-term?
- What is your current fitness level?
- What type of physical activity is your favorite?
- How much sleep do you get?
- What does your daily nutritional intake look like?
- Do you have any injuries or medical conditions? If you do, have you asked your doctor if it's okay to start a workout routine and what you can and can't do physically?
