Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We have a 30 minute meet & match where we talk about new student needs & focus, as well as, the Khaordo Training Approach. From that comes a decision, and a probable training plan.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am well versed in Combat Skills & Martial Arts as a Trainer & Lifelong Student. I have created numerous signature moves & techniques including C241, & A.W.A.R.E.N.E.S.S.. I am a degreed & experienced Electrical Engineer. I worked at NASA & in the Oil & Gas Industry. My engineering/scientific experience has been a Plus to my Self-Defense Training. I am a Military Intelligence Army Veteran with Special Ops Training. Additionally, I can execute the One-Inch-Punch made famous by Bruce Lee.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
At the meet and match meeting, commitment is accessed (I don't accept some students if I sense the learned skills may be misused), & a fee/Quote & time schedule is determined.
How did you get started teaching?
I started as a pre-teen, taking boxing lessons from my Uncle, who was a Competitive Boxer. I taught my brothers & a sister after that. As a young adult, I taught combatives to students in college, as well as, tutored academics. As an older adult I have taught 1000's in Self-Defense, & in Academics as a Teacher & Tutor. I have also coached sports.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from all walks of life, ethnic groups, & travelers from numerous countries. My clients have included special needs students, gifted & talented, mainstream, senior citizens, & youth as young as 5 years of age. I have worked with numerous cultural groups, & within cultures. We have developed effective programs for prevention & in response to bullying, as well as, programs to deter & respond to Intimate Partner Violence (IPV).
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Taught a workshop for Youth & Interactive Parents at a Neighborhood YMCA.
I am providing a Free Tai Chi Class on Oct 7th, 2017 to benefit Houstonians adversely affected by Hurricane Harvey.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Ask the Teacher 3 Questions:
1) Have you ever been subjected to a Real Street or Home Attack (not a staged or sports competition) and if so, please give a detailed description of the results?
2) How do you adjust or match your training to each individual to get the maximum benefit from your system & style of training.
3) Do you limit your training to a training studio or dojo, or do you train in the outdoors or in a non-conventional training center?
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What do I want (student desires) and what do I (the student) really need from the Instructor?
What kind of a student am I?
Do I have any health and safety issues that I need the Instructor to know about? Safety First!
