About

Hello! My name is Tyler. I picked up the Horn in 4th grade and haven't put it down since. In high school I was a member of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra and played in woodwind quintets at Settlement Music School (also in Philadelphia). After that I received my bachelor's degree in horn performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music followed by my master's from Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. I played and taught around the Philadelphia area for a bit before moving to Dallas to freelance and set up a larger private studio. In addition to teaching, I have subbed with groups in the North Texas region such as the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and Tulsa Opera, and have taken orchestra auditions across North America, from Philadelphia all the way out to Vancouver, BC.

I taught private lessons at the non-profit Oxford Arts Alliance in Oxford, PA from the fall of 2015 through the winter of 2016, when I moved to Philadelphia to teach at the non-profit Play On, Philly. In the fall of 2017 I moved to Dallas, where I am now the adjunct horn faculty for Mountain View College. I also maintain a studio of middle-and-high school students, including All-State level musicians. I have taught horn players at many different levels, from 3rd graders who just started the instrument to undergraduate students who are preparing for their school juries.

I want to share what I have learned from my top-level conservatory training and professional audition experience and I want to help you achieve your musical goals. If you want to learn a new instrument for fun, if you want to play a higher chair in your school band, if you are pursuing a music degree and are preparing for college auditions, or if you just plain want to get better at playing the horn, I can help you achieve your goal.

I enjoy helping others improve a skill they enjoy doing. Nothing quite beats watching a student have a breakthrough moment, when they suddenly get a concept that directly translates to playing their horn better.

Frequently asked questions

I received my bachelor's degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Concervatory of music (CCM) and my master's degree from Easman School of Music. Both degrees are in horn performance. I have also taught horn lessons at Oxford Arts Alliance, Play On Philly, Birdville, Lewisville, and Duncanville ISDs, and Mountain View College. As for performance, I have subbed with groups in the North Texas region like the Fort Worth Symphony and Tulsa Opera, as well as smaller regional orchestras.

Half hour lessons $30, hour lessons $50

As a graduate student I would help out the undergraduates when they had questions or were encountering a horn-related issue. After graduating I joined up with Oxford Arts Alliance to reach a wider range of people than I could on my own.

I have the most experience with 7-12th graders who have been playing for at least a year, but I have also taught undergraduate music majors as well as beginners.

What do you want to get out of lessons? Do you have specific musical goals, either short or long term?
