About
Affekt Training is a pioneer for a unique approach to fitness that incorporates both comprehensive + engaging training AND psychology + behavioral modification to change from the psyche, outwards.
Our coaching includes advanced biomechanical concepts, precise exercise selection and energetic / psychological aspects in order to improve fitness and mindset from a holistic perspective. The way in which we weave this together is a groundbreaking approach towards better health, stronger bodies and more attuned minds.
Our methods have been used by CEO’s, military personnel, youth and professional athletes in MMA / BJJ as well as the average person looking to improve their livelihood through training, nutrition, lifestyle and community.

How did you get started teaching?
I started coaching at a very young age due to personal limitations - I was sick all of the time, my joints and back ached by the time I was 16. I also fell into a bad place of depression.
Over the years I have learned and experienced both the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. My goal is to meet people where they are at and be a guide, an "awareness provider," for better fitness, health and vitality.
What types of students have you worked with?
My range of clientele through my 8 years of coaching has been diverse - I've worked with the older population dealing with arthritis, hip replacements etc., as well as youth and professional athletes in baseball, basketball, MMA, and Jiu jitsu.
Most of my time is spent consulting with business owners, professional gamers, as well as coaching in-person at Affekt where we serve everyone - from single moms to jiu jitsu practitioners and everybody in between.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I have recently ran seminars for Gracie Jiu Jitsu in Salt Lake as well as South Salt Lake Fire Department.
Most of my days are filled with coaching people towards small, daily wins with fitness or nutrition.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Every gym is different. We often call Affekt Training a "gathering space" more than a gym. Our aim is to create a community of curious, spirited people who want more out of training than what is often given.
With that being said, Affekt Training is not for everyone. We offer a free week trial to anyone interested in exploring our space, feel free to ask any questions (801-755-1382 - Josh) in regards to our onboarding process, training, nutrition, dealing with injuries etc., we are willing to chat and help in any way that we can.
Our training is diverse and explorative in nature. There really is nothing else like it. Choosing a gym is like choosing anything else of important (a therapist, a doctor etc.) you need to KNOW that this person can help you improve, and it is always more than just training.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
1. Where they can and want to see them 3 years from now.
2. If they are truly committed to change, with changes in routine, social life, psychology etc.
3. if their schedule and budget will allow a "comfortable" commitment of at least 6 months time and 3 sessions per week (with whoever you choose) in order to get the most out of it.
