About
I specialize in teaching Chess students with a rating of 0 - 1000. I started my journey during the chess boom of 2020 and the overwhelming process of trying to learn on my own made me realize I needed a coach. With their guidance, I increased my rating by 500 points in 10 months. Through the experiences, I learned that I wanted to be this guidance for others.

That glimmer in the student's eye that is accompanied by the brief silence when they have learned something that will change their game. When the student has the "Aha" moment and I can't wait to hear how they will apply it to their real-life games.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with Adults and Kids, I start with understanding the students learning preferences. Magnus Carlsen is famous for focusing on how he learns best and avoiding the rest of the methods.
After this, I will play a training game with the students which I will use to create a custom lesson plan
My 3 focuses with students are the following:
- Enjoy Chess: Chess is pattern recognition, if you are enjoying chess your focus is on the game. If your focus is on the game you will improve and you will want to learn.
- Learning The Fundamentals: Chess fundamentals will bring clarity to your games and will be the pillars you will stand on to becoming an intermediate and advanced player.
- Becoming the Chess Engine: We can’t bring fancy chess engines to our games but you can learn to analyze your own positions so you will always have a plan in your games.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
- Weekly Chess lessons for beginners at my local chess club
- Provided private lessons for the past 10 months
- Trained under a multi-time national chess champion and chess master.
- Competed in various Rated Tournaments including one of the world's largest, the World Chess Open.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Yes! Here are the services I provide:
- A free 15-minute intro call to help you learn more about me and for me to learn about your needs.
- A $20 Training game that will come with an analysis of your strengths and weaknesses.
- A $35 Personalized Chess Lesson (60 Minutes for Each Lesson).
How did you get started teaching?
My chess coach recommended I being teaching due to my love for the game and sharing knowledge. My friends, to whom I provided free lessons too recommended I start teaching as they felt I did a wonderful job at being patient and thorough with my lessons.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked mostly with those who never played before or have only had the occasional interaction with Chess.
I find most of my students have the following things in common:
- Never Played Before or played as a kid and looking to get back into Chess
- Are overwhelmed with where to get started, how to improve, and what they should be learning at this stage in their chess journey.
- Are stuck and frustrated that they aren’t progressing in their chess
- Those who wish to maximize their chess study time to it’s fullest potential
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently was provided a lesson to someone who was curious about chess, and by the end of it, I had received a message telling me they were inspired to become a "Chess whiz" because of me. That warmed my heart greatly.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Chess strength does not correlate with a great chess teacher. Whoever you do end up choosing, make sure they can adapt to your needs, and want to be in your corner for the love of the game and for the love of teaching.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
- Why have you decided to get a chess coach now? And why a chess coach? Why not learn on your own?
- What role does chess play in your life and how is that related to why you want to get better?
- What are your chess goals? (it's okay if you just love the game and want to learn more about it! We don't have to all reach master.)
