Five stars for Lisa, easy! I have trained with Lisa for five years, but she has been in business as a personal trainer (owner operator!) for I believe 15 years. She has a full roster of clients in Virginia, Maryland and DC—from personal one-on-one sessions several times a week to drop-in boot camps for groups of friends. I have had trainers before tell me they "aren’t there to be my friend!”--meaning, they exist to make you work so hard you are bitter or whatever. Lisa takes the opposite approach. She is keenly interested in the ‘whole person’ with each of her clients, and certainly becomes your friend, cheerleader, your therapist (physical and sometimes emotional!), nutritionist, and your sounding board. — All while making you work extremely hard and getting real results. The physical aspects of her workouts focus on proper form and understanding what muscles you are working, why, and where you should "feel it.” She systematically works out upper body, legs, and abs in a deliberate order, with tailoring for each client, seamlessly weaving in cardio and strength. Her post-work-out stretching is the BEST. The mental aspects of the same sessions focus on positivity, a healthy attitude towards exercise (we can never say “I hate [insert nay exercise or body part]”), and truly getting to know each client and their needs. Her resume and education back up everything she does, with stints training Division I athletes at both Naval Academy and the University of Florida, personal training for tennis legend Monica Selas, and several championship seasons of her own on the women’s weight-lifting circuit. She comes to fitness as a former college gymnast. I cannot imagine training with anyone else, and I actually look forward to seeing her, even at 5:30 a.m., even to do chin ups (which I hate but am not allowed to talk about). It seems like such a small thing, but I also love that she also always looks great, with the latest matching fitness attire, her own perfect figure, which is an inspiration, and like 30 pairs of Ascics that always match her tops.
LRF Training Method
· Professional training with individualized attention
Customized workouts based specifically on each client’s needs and goals.
· Dynamic warm-ups, workouts, and cool-downs that are fun and challenging
We incorporate mobility, activation drills, strength, and flexibility exercises in every workout! Our personalized sessions help clients step out of their comfort zone with workouts that include a variety of exercises adapted to each individual. We always perform a proper warm-up and include specific “LRF T.L.C” exercises based on what each clients needs. We also provide a proper cool down and a post workout stretch.
· Emphasis on form, function, and technique
LRF trainers focus on teaching how to perform exercises correctly to gain maximum benefits.
· Develop a mind-muscle connection in each session
We use positive coaching cues to teach clients to feel and acknowledge the way each exercise makes each specific muscle work. We ask specific questions within each training session to engage both the mind and muscles in turn creating more and better results.
· Valuable motivation
Participating in regular sessions with an LRF trainer motivates clients to attend scheduled sessions as well as accomplish workouts on their own.
Empowerment through positivity
We teach clients to adopt a can-do attitude through modeling behavior and focusing on positive tools for change.
· Assistance with incremental goal-setting
We help our clients achieve their goals by breaking them down into smaller steps that are specific and realistic. We encourage clients to take the “one-step-at-a-time” approach and we help assess progress towards each short and long term goals accordingly.
LRF sets ground rules to keep clients motivated and focused in a time efficient manner.
· Create personal connections through kindness and availability
We build genuine relationships with our clients and the sessions are always about the client. We also provide accountability and support where we see fit outside of training sessions.
· Warm and inviting community
