How did you get started teaching?
I have always been athletic, from swimming to gymnastics and lots in between. When I was 16 I had Guillian barre syndrome, which paralyzed everything except one side of my face. Physical therapy was an integral part of my after treatment and this sparked an interest in resistance training and physical education. When I went to college I majored in physical education, but there was a moratorium on hiring teachers. So I started teaching group exercise classes and eventually became the aerobic director for a large chain of women's gyms where I developed the group exercise program and trained instructors.
What types of students have you worked with?
MS, breast cancer, hip replacement, knee replacement, athletes, ballerinas.
