About
I listen to the needs of my customers whether teaching or photographing them. While learning about photography years ago, I thought many teachers were egotistical. To teach, one must be mindful of the needs of the students as each student will be different. Teaching is not a forum for boasting of ones skills or moving at such a rapid pace the student can't keep up.
I started photographing as the world of digital cameras was born back in 2000 when I bought my first Canon Digital Rebel. I fell in love with it instantly. I had the urge to photograph at a very young age since my mother was a news reporter for a small town newspaper.
There is no doubt that I am a creative as I have a B.S. in Apparel Design from Kansas State University and an Associate of Applied Science in Visual Communications from Highline College.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My first task is to assess where they are at in their development of skills. The second thing is to listen carefully to what they would like to learn. And of course ensuring they are understanding as the lesson takes place.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I took alot of classes. Eventually one has to figure out what their learning style is. After a while I knew the knowledge was there but I decided and realized that practice really was the key for me. And for me practice is ongoing and by myself. A photographer has to know how to work with their camera quickly and efficiently because when on assignment the mental focus must be on point.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
The pricing is $50 per hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I realized there was alot of bad photography due to the advent of cell phones and decided to help others with skills they need to become better as taking photos.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with people who have some experience with photography but are able to define where their issues are.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I was thinking back to an event I photographed which was the MS Walk in Tacoma. While it was not recent it reminds me of the importance of my body and health.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
The student and teacher should have a decent rapport and the student should review the work of the photographer and seek to understand what they are looking for in a teacher.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
A student shoud ask themselves what stage of learning they are in and compare that with what the teacher is able to teach.
