About

I love seeing my students get excited to learn. I love teaching and passing my knowledge onto those that are seeking to learn. Lessons with me are individually tailored to each and every student from complete beginners to gigging professionals.

I have been teaching for nearly 7 years both privately and in the Northshore Public School system as a woodwinds assistant. I hold a BA in music and a minor in audio recording/engineering. I have also studied with many teachers around the Pacific Northwest and beyond including Chad Lefkowitz-Brown (Taylor Swift's previous saxophone player), Greg Metcalf, Mark Taylor, Mike Allen, Fred Winkler, Steve Kortyka (Lady Gaga’s saxophone player), and Alexey Nikolaev. I have spent many years playing in professional bands and have been on numerous recordings and am currently an endorsing artist for Claude Lakey Mouthpieces.

He is fantastic. English is my second language. Tyler explained musical words easily to me. We learned over Google Hangouts. And, he would show me how to play and he corrected my playing. And he was patient and friendly.

    Frequently asked questions

Assess what they want out of lessons and well as their particular learning style and build from there.

I have been teaching privately for nearly 6 years. I also work in the Northshore Public School system as a woodwinds instructional assistant at Skyview Middle School. I hold a BA in music and a minor in audio recording/engineering from Western Washington University. I have played in many professional gigging bands and still do to this day.

    My rates are as follows:

    30 minutes - $45

    45 minutes - $55

    60 minutes - $65

I got started teaching by giving informal lessons to friends and other people in the music program at Western Washington University. From that point, I knew I really enjoyed teaching and decided to get hooked up with a music school once I moved back down to the Seattle area.

I have worked with people as young as 4th grade to people that are retired.

Recently, I had a talk with a few of my students about Call and Response in music. Nearly 100% of music that anyone will hear is based on a Call and Response formula. One student, in particular, was very excited when we were talking about this. Seeing that level of excitement and enthusiasm is contagious, it gives me true fulfillment.

I would tell them to find someone that they feel compatible with. Make sure that the teacher you are considering is willing to work with whatever learning style suits them.

Are you willing to devote the time that is needed to start playing an instrument? Outside practice on a consistent basis is key to progressing.

What do you hope to get out of taking lessons? Any specific goals?

Music is a long-term commitment, so be sure that it is something you want to do. (:
