This could be the cometitive player or someone who just wants to have a better swing for Top Golf once in a while with friends. I have worked with all age ranges from 5-92 and truely enjoy getting to spend time and positively impact the people that I work with and coach.

I have worked with Max for about 2 and a half years. I began going to Max as a sophomore in high school playing off a 5 handicap. I am now a senior in high school playing off a plus 1 handicap and have signed a scholarship to play college golf. In the time that I have been seeing Max the overall consistency of my ball striking has improved drastically. Max does a great job of making sure that I understand why I hit the shots I hit and how I can easily change my ball flight, start line and curve pattern. During our lessons Max makes sure that I understand what he is trying trying to teach and if I am ever confused he does a great job of finding another way for me to understand. During my lessons we have worked on every part of the game including a lot of on course lessons where he teaches me how to think my way around a golf course more efficiently. Max’s dedication to his job does not stop there. I can always text him at any hour if I have a question and he will always respond and help me. There have been several occasions where he will take time from his personal life late at night and FaceTime me with tips. Max has gone above and beyond for me to help me become as good as I can be and for that I am thankful and would not be where I am at today without all his help.

Max Doster at the Blackburn Golf Academy has coached my 12 year old son for 7 years and has done an outstanding job. Hes very knowledgeable and has a unique ability to simplify complex golf fundamentals and make them easy to understand for junior golfers and adults. Most importantly Max emphasizes making the game fun and Ive been amazed at some of the drills and games hes come up with over the years to teach my son skills and fundamentals in a fun way that he enjoys. I highly recommend Max and am very thankful for all that he has done and continues to do for my son.

Frequently asked questions

For the first lesson we have a 2-hour evaluation of the entire game, perform a TPI functional movement screen to see how your body moves, assess what your goals are and create a game improvement plan.  From there we begin working towards accomplishing your goals and missions.  I recommend coaching sessions every 1-4 weeks depending on the player and their goals for at least 1-2 hours, preferably two hours each session.  This gives adequate time to assess and diagnose any issues preventing positive output and also the opportunity to work on different areas of the game during the same sessions.

I've played golf for almost 24 years now and have always wanted to be around the game.  I was competive in middle and high school as a player and wanted to be a teacher and coach to help others enjoy the game more and create better lives through golf.  I went to Mississippi State University and through their PGA Golf Management Program.  In college I was fortuntate to have internships at different clubs and get to spark my coaching journey.  Once I graduated I was hired at Highland Park Golf Course as the Player Devleopment Director in Birmingham, AL, the last course I interned at. I worked 4 years at Highland Park and then began at the Blackburn Golf Academy at Greystone Country Club, also in Birmingham, AL.  I have coached their 4 years now and have learned so much from so many great coaches.  Greystone CC is a great place and I enjoy being able to help people enjoy their lives more through golf there.
