I took private lessons all thru my childhood from a fabulous artist named Jackie Goode of Grisham-Cornell Studios. As a child I won two national art competitions and then gave up painting at age 14. I picked up where I left off in 2013 and have since taught special needs students at Merrimack Hall Performing Arts Center and Lowe Mill in Huntsville Al. I have been selected for many national concerts and music festivals and was a featured artist at the Pensacola Museum of Art in early 2022. I love teaching and painting is my life now. I love seeing the light bulb come on in students. To watch them grow and find their own voice on canvas is such...

I give painting lessons in oil, acrylic, and watercolor in my studio at Serendipity Antiques & Interiors on hwy 72 in Athens, AL. I love seeing my students get the bug and start practicing and improving. I like passing along what I’ve learned in my 20 years of painting. I start students at the level they are and work with them in the direction they want to go.

I have been working with an instructor myself for years. I am a teacher (preschool.) I have a professional setting for students who would like to learn over the internet. I also have mediums for students to try without purchasing.

Your Painting Lessons questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.

How much do painting classes cost?

Painting classes cost $200 to $500 for a 5- to 10-week course, or $20 to $80 per person for a single session. Local, city-sponsored classes typically cost less than private lessons or college courses. Some painting classes offer discounts for friends, children, or other groups.

Some instructors include all materials in their prices, while others require that you buy some or all of them yourself. Online painting classes can be done anywhere and can be paused as needed without slowing anyone else down.

How long are painting classes?

Painting classes usually last 1 to 3 hours¸ depending on the age group, experience level, and location. Kids' classes are shorter than adult or college-level classes and are sometimes only available during certain hours of the day.

What kind of painting class is best for beginners?

Acrylic paint is best for beginners because it is easy to work with, easy to clean up, and dries quickly. Watercolor paint is also convenient and easy to clean up, but it is harder to work with and correct mistakes. Oil paints are best for beginner or intermediate painters with some experience.

Where can I take painting classes?

You can take painting classes from local rec centers, colleges, private instructors, and paint-and-sip shops. Paint-and-sip businesses provide materials and instructions for students to complete while socializing and drinking or eating.

What do I bring to painting classes?

Some classes provide all of the paint and supplies. Others do not, and you will have to buy your own. This may include any of the following:

  • Paints
  • Brushes
  • Easel
  • Canvas
  • Apron

Experienced, gifted, creative, fun, safe, great prices. Highly recommend for art lessons or professional photography! My 9 year old daughter has been taking art lessons with Hunt and is having the time of her life! I love how they decide and plan together what project to work on and follow where the creative juices flow. Hunts always has a plan, but is flexible when new ideas comes to light. My daughter has sculpted with wire, paper, clay, and found objects; painted with a broad variety of mediums, including watercolors, oils, inks and pastels; made Christmas ornaments and windchimes. One day she even learned how to make crock pickles! Last fall Hunt came to our house and did family photos. She took pictures at many different locations and got every imaginable combination of family members. They are amazing photos! It was terribly hard to decide, and she was extremely reasonable. Hunt is easy to text, and willing to reschedule when possible. She seems to always find a way to work us in when we can't make our scheduled spot.
