Peter D. says, "My son has been working with Coach Phillips for a few months now. To start, my son had zero baseball experience or skills, so they have worked primarily on fundamentals. Thanks to Coach, my son made his Freshman HS baseball team and is one of the top hitters on the squad and he is quickly improving in other areas of his game. Coach Phillips has been great to work with and has been patient in his teaching, while setting high expectations. Highly recommended! Thanks Coach!" Read more

I am a former baseball player that grew up in the game through high school until I was injured. I've spent my springs, summers, and fall/winter playing the game I love. I was enrolled in 15 training camps held by the Arizona Diamondbacks and ASU baseball team. I started playing at 4 years old and played 8 years of year round baseball with traveling teams and Chandler High School on the freshman and JV teams. An injury to my rotator cuff ended my career. I'm trying to get back into the game by coaching kids and teaching them the same lessons I was taught on the ball field as a young man. I believe respect is the number one rule of this game a...

Your Baseball Training questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.com.

How much do private baseball lessons cost?

Private baseball lessons cost $50 to $75 per 30-minute lesson and $80 to $140 per 1-hour lesson. The price depends on your location, the instructor's experience and reputation, the student's age, and whether the lesson includes extras like a video analysis of the player's performance.

Many coaches offer lower prices per lesson if you purchase a package that includes 6 or 10 lessons. The average package prices are:

  • 6 pack of 30-minute lessons: $270 – $420
  • 6 pack of 1-hour lessons: $450 – $720
  • 10 pack of 30-minute lessons: $400 – $600
  • 10 pack of 1-hour lessons: $700 – $1,100

Are private baseball lessons worth it?

Private baseball lessons may be worth it if your child currently plays the sport, loves it, and has expressed an interest in improving their skills and performance. Private lessons can help your child advance their skills, develop good habits, and avoid forming bad habits.

Motivation and a drive to improve are key factors in whether or not the lessons will actually help your child. It's important for your child to practice in between private lessons.

Children who receive private baseball lessons are usually more likely to advance to playing at higher levels than children who only receive group coaching during regular team practice. However private lessons don't guarantee your child will play collegiate or professional baseball.

What is the difference between private and semi-private baseball lessons?

In a private baseball lesson, the athlete trains one-on-one with an instructor who tailors the lesson specifically to their needs and skill level. In a semi-private lesson, two athletes work together with one instructor. Semi-private lessons, also called partner lessons, typically cost 10% to 20% less than private lessons. However, because the trainer's attention is divided between the two athletes, the athletes don't get the same level of individualized instruction as they would in a private lesson.

What age should you start pitching lessons?

Baseball instructors generally recommend that children start pitching lessons at around 8 to 12 years old, though there are no age requirements or exact rules. Learning fundamental pitching skills early on can help your child avoid developing bad habits that will be difficult for them to break later.

However, your child should not start taking pitching lessons until they are comfortable throwing the ball as well as catching the ball one-handed.

I loved working with Tom! He assisted me with softball training and a bit of general training for a few knee problems I had been experiencing. He is very knowledgeable about a variety of sports and general fitness. He also made the experience very comfortable and I found him very easy to talk to and work with. Overall awesome experience! Would highly recommend and if I need training in the future I will be reaching out to him again.
