I rarely write reviews but felt compelled to do so.
I owned horses most of my life (30+ years). Several years ago, I broke my neck in a car accident and a new chapter began. Recently, I was diagnosed with a rare and terminal disease with a year or so left to live. I was asked by a friend: What is on your bucket list? And realized I had a great desire to get back in the saddle.
After calling several people, I found Brian on line as a trainer/ instructor. I explained my situation to him and unlike others, his immediate response was… get out here and let’s ride. Upon meeting him I realized everything he claimed in his add was true and then some. He is a well-spoken, well mannered, intelligent yet modest young man with a wealth of horse knowledge. He is very patient and understanding with the ability to communicate effectively any lesson to any rider, beginner to advanced. He is laid back and relaxed which resonates to his approach to horses. His style of training is systematic, repetitive patients vs. the whip & spur method.
If you’re looking to take your green broke colt and transform him into a world champion reining horse. Brian is not your guy.
If you’re looking to work out the bad habits and fine tune your horse, if you’re a beginner looking for someone to take the time to personally teach you and / or your children the right and safe way to ride without the cookie cutter mentality, or perhaps a novice to advanced rider looking to improve your skill set, give Brian a call. Spend one hour with him and you will see exactly what I am talking about.
Thanks for everything Brian, see you next week, Tim

Brian is a warm cup of tea on a cold day. He brings a smile and a caring heart to everything he does. He approaches each session with patience and always wants the best for horse and rider.

Brian made my 2 youngsters feel confident and at ease, when riding on the horses. My sons, aged 2 and 5, were a little nervous at first, but with Brian’s patience and encouragement, they hopped up and had an absolutely joyful time learning the basics or horseback riding! They even got to feed the horses some treats afterwards, which they thoroughly enjoyed. Would highly recommend!

My daughter absolutely loved her experience at Second Hand Ranch. She is eager to return and ride again. Brian is very attentive and knowledgeable. He presents the material in an accessable way, allowing the rider to learn and grow in their time. The horses a loved and trained well, with excellent accomodations. His passion for horses is clear instantly. His knowledge and love of the animals is contagious for riders of all ages.

    Frequently asked questions

It really depends on where the student is in their riding/horsemanship career. I'm willing to go as slow as the rider wants in order to build the confidence necessary to be succesful with their goals in horsemanship.

I've helped and train dozens of horses for owners and friends. I've worked with breaking in BLM mustangs to even helping owners with their horse break through some barriers they are having trouble attaining.

    Yes, $55/hr with a 2/hr minumum

I've been teaching for awhile now. I believe it's important to help mentor the upcoming generations. I've had great role models/teachers in my life and I wanted to pay it back!

Most of the students I've worked with are riders who have had bad wrecks on horses they shouldn't have been riding in the first place. I work on building up their confidence and show them the fun side of horsemanship.

A recent event I'm fond of is I had some kids come up from big brothers and big sisters. I taught them a bit about horses and then gave them a trail ride so they could feel what it's like to ride on a horse. It's always interesting to see which kids take to horses faster than others.

Find a teacher that goes at your pace and gives you the tools to succeed within that realm.

Students should make a list about what their goals are in whatever they are trying to learn from and need to be honest with themselves in setting achievable goals.
