Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.
How much do acoustic guitar lessons cost near me?
Most acoustic guitar lessons cost$35 to $70 per session for 30 to 60 minutes. Private class prices are $45 to $70 per hour and give students the most attention. Group guitar lessons cost $25 to $35 per session for a collaborative learning environment with less personal attention.
Subscriptions for ongoing lessons are available from $170 to $315 per month.
Are acoustic guitar lessons worth it?
Acoustic guitar lessons are worth it because the structured teaching style motivates students and enhances faster progress. A private instructor also helps to prevent the development of poor techniques common in self-taught musicians.
What age is good to start acoustic guitar lessons?
You can start acoustic guitar lessons for children from ages 6 to 10 years old while adults can start lessons at any age. The journey of mastering the guitar is dependent on your dedication to practice and your teacher's qualifications.
How many acoustic guitar lessons do I need?
The amount of acoustic guitar lessons you need will depend on what you want to accomplish and how frequently you practice. Learning a simple song takes 2 to 6 months on average. However, mastering the guitar like a professional musician takes 4 to 10 years.
Is there a difference between electric and acoustic guitar lessons?
There are many differences between electric and acoustic guitar lessons because these instruments have unique features.
An electric guitar requires you to learn:
How to use an amplifier
How to work with effects and foot pedals
What makes a wide range of sounds for rock, metal, blues, or jazz
Techniques like power chords, palm muting, and note bending
However, learning to play an acoustic guitar is simpler because it doesn't connect to amplifiers or cables. Acoustic guitar playing uses different finger techniques to make a resonant sound suitable for folk, country, pop, and blues music.
How do I find the best acoustic guitar lessons near me?
To find the most suitable acoustic guitar lessons, you can peruse the list of nearby teachers here on the Lessons website. Also, don't overlook the potential of local music stores for guitar lessons.
Before settling on a guitar teacher, it's crucial to:
Review the prices from at least 3 different teachers.
Examine reviews about them on Google and Lessons.
Ask for references from other students they've taught.
Consult with other parents to gauge their children's experience with the teacher.
Get a written schedule and contract prior to the first lesson.
Evaluate the teacher's compatibility before signing up for a full month.
What questions do I ask when choosing an acoustic guitar teacher?
To choose the best acoustic guitar teacher, it helps to pose these questions:
What music-related degrees do you have?
Is there an option for a complimentary first session to see if we're a good fit?
What is the extent of your experience in teaching guitar?
Which type of acoustic guitar would be most appropriate for me to practice on?
What's the average age range of your student base?
Will you assign finger drills for me to practice outside of lessons?
How much independent practice do you recommend between classes?
Which specific textbooks should I get?
How many styles of guitar music can you teach?
Could you adjust your instructional methods if I'm having difficulties?
What should I bring to our classes?
How long is each session?
Could I get a copy of our class timetable, agreement, and terms of payment?
What is your protocol to cancel a class due to an unforeseen circumstance?
Is there flexibility to add some of my favorite songs into the curriculum?

"My dream was to be able to play guitar like a rock star. A few years ago, I decided to give that a try. From the very beginning, I knew that I could never learn how to play guitar using those self-taught methods taught through books or videos. Michael Daniel was the first and the only guitar instructor I worked with.
After our first meeting, I knew he was the right guy and there was no need for me to seek another. Michael is an extremely talented musician with a sincere interest in teaching. His lessons offer a cohesive and measurable program of study tailored to address the student’s weaknesses within the framework of their personal interests and objectives.
In the six years I’ve been studying with Michael, I have never disappointed. I was a newbie when I first met him and didn’t even know how to hold a guitar correctly. In just few months, I was able to play one of the songs I brought to him. Along the way he had taught me everything from basic chords, to lead soloing techniques, to music theory that I can use to write my own music.Today, I have developed solid skills in both lead and rhythm playing, and is able to play different guitar parts from an incredible variety of song collections from those of Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, David Gilmour, Bon Jovi, Bob Dylan to Zeppelin and many others.
As far as I can tell, Michael is incredibly knowledgeable in virtually all aspects of the instrument, from technique to theory to song composition, and he knows how to teach to keep you engaged and excited about what you’re doing. He also has unbelievable ear hearing and can transcribe any song into a guitar tab for you to play with your favorite guitarists.
Bottom line — if you think you need guitar lessons, come to visit Michael. He has helped to make my music dream come true. He can do the same to you too!"

I am 48 years old and started taking lessons from William a few months ago. William is very patient and thorough. I have learned more in these few months than I have in all the years I have been trying to teach myself. I would highly recommend William if you are looking for a guitar instructor, regardless of your background or specific music style interest.

Jeremy is a patient and kind instructor. I have taken uke lessons for a year with him. He listens to what I would like to learn and understands how to teach adults. I liked him so much that I bought lessons for my God daughters who are 13 and 10 years old. Even ADHD didn't deter Jeremy from teaching guitar and uke. Because of the Pandemic, we switched to online lessons, Jeremy is just a good in person or online.

I've been taking lessons with Mike for close to two years. I had been playing guitar for a long time when we met, so I was already pretty familiar with the guitar but over the last two years my skills and knowledge have improved considerably. Mike is a really good guy and a great guitarist/musician with a whole lot of experience and no shortage of things to teach. For the past several months I've been writing and recording songs and Mike has been helping me with that process. His input and contributions have been invaluable and we've been able to take several basic ideas and turn them into nearly complete songs (they're still in progress). Mike will teach you how to be a better musician/guitarist regardless of your goals or experience level. Hiring Mike was one of the better decisions I've ever made. If you want to learn to play guitar, Mike's your guy.

Taking piano lessons from Patti is something I look forward to each week. I am committed to practice every day for an hour & a half. And although I will probably never play in Carnegie Hall, I will be able to play carols, oldies but goodies and in general enjoy the music! Patti is making it an enjoyable and attainable experience for me! I recommend taking lessons the way Patti teaches them whether you are young or older (like I am!).
