Leslie R. says, "Aaron is an amazing teacher. He made the impossible possible: He taught me not just how to play the instrument, but how to create music! Aaron’s relaxed, yet professional teaching style, friendly, positive demeanor, keen interest in what I want to learn, his enthusiasm and his unsurpassed knowledge of how to play the guitar make him a priceless teacher! His approach does not feel cookie-cutter or generic; I really feel like he’s tuned into what I want to do, which translates into learning a lot in a very short time. Mostly, he really makes playing the guitar fun, and that's why I'm here and why I highly recommend him." Read more

George C. says, "I huge endorsement for Steven. You are learning from a concert performer that is purely focused on your success. You will enjoy listening to him play as much as learning yourself. He has endless patients to ensure that you are building the fundamentals needed to reach your goals. Many teachers will let you short cut your way through the learning process which may have you playing a specific melody faster. However, you will build a bunch of bad habits that will limit your potential, slow you down, and ultimately another teacher will have to fix later. Don’t delay…get started…just pick up the guitar for 15 minutes a day to start and follow his direction." Read more

Your Acoustic Guitar questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.com.

How much do acoustic guitar lessons cost near me?

Most acoustic guitar lessons cost $35 to $70 per session for 30 to 60 minutes. Private class prices are $45 to $70 per hour and give students the most attention. Group guitar lessons cost $25 to $35 per session for a collaborative learning environment with less personal attention.

Subscriptions for ongoing lessons are available from $170 to $315 per month.

Are acoustic guitar lessons worth it?

Acoustic guitar lessons are worth it because the structured teaching style motivates students and enhances faster progress. A private instructor also helps to prevent the development of poor techniques common in self-taught musicians.

What age is good to start acoustic guitar lessons?

You can start acoustic guitar lessons for children from ages 6 to 10 years old while adults can start lessons at any age. The journey of mastering the guitar is dependent on your dedication to practice and your teacher's qualifications.

How many acoustic guitar lessons do I need?

The amount of acoustic guitar lessons you need will depend on what you want to accomplish and how frequently you practice. Learning a simple song takes 2 to 6 months on average. However, mastering the guitar like a professional musician takes 4 to 10 years.

Is there a difference between electric and acoustic guitar lessons?

There are many differences between electric and acoustic guitar lessons because these instruments have unique features.

An electric guitar requires you to learn:

  • How to use an amplifier
  • How to work with effects and foot pedals
  • What makes a wide range of sounds for rock, metal, blues, or jazz
  • Techniques like power chords, palm muting, and note bending

However, learning to play an acoustic guitar is simpler because it doesn't connect to amplifiers or cables. Acoustic guitar playing uses different finger techniques to make a resonant sound suitable for folk, country, pop, and blues music.

How do I find the best acoustic guitar lessons near me?

To find the most suitable acoustic guitar lessons, you can peruse the list of nearby teachers here on the Lessons website. Also, don't overlook the potential of local music stores for guitar lessons.

Before settling on a guitar teacher, it's crucial to:

  • Review the prices from at least 3 different teachers.
  • Examine reviews about them on Google and Lessons.
  • Ask for references from other students they've taught.
  • Consult with other parents to gauge their children's experience with the teacher.
  • Get a written schedule and contract prior to the first lesson.
  • Evaluate the teacher's compatibility before signing up for a full month.

What questions do I ask when choosing an acoustic guitar teacher?

To choose the best acoustic guitar teacher, it helps to pose these questions:

  • What music-related degrees do you have?
  • Is there an option for a complimentary first session to see if we're a good fit?
  • What is the extent of your experience in teaching guitar?
  • Which type of acoustic guitar would be most appropriate for me to practice on?
  • What's the average age range of your student base?
  • Will you assign finger drills for me to practice outside of lessons?
  • How much independent practice do you recommend between classes?
  • Which specific textbooks should I get?
  • How many styles of guitar music can you teach?
  • Could you adjust your instructional methods if I'm having difficulties?
  • What should I bring to our classes?
  • How long is each session?
  • Could I get a copy of our class timetable, agreement, and terms of payment?
  • What is your protocol to cancel a class due to an unforeseen circumstance?
  • Is there flexibility to add some of my favorite songs into the curriculum?

Aaron has a unique understanding of instruction how the style of teaching should conform to the individual student. Aaron is deeply concerned about the student's Goals and Expectations and creates a learning experience that is individualized for the student. Not the cookbook approach. His agenda is your agenda as he helps you to achieve your goals. I am retired and decided to try my hand again in trying to learn the guitar, after having tried several teachers in the past. Aaron imparts quality as he teaches the guitar skills and musical theory. I highly very happy with Aaron as my selection to be my Guitar Instructor and highly recommend him if you on the search.

I've only had a couple of lessons, but he is responsive to my needs and is encouraging when I'm successful at new things. He suggests good exercises based on my skill level. As a new bassist, I have a lot of confidence he'll continue to challenge me. Much better than previous instructors I've had at the big box music stores in the past.

Steven has been an excellent teacher of a wide range of guitar styles - classical, brazilian, spanish, and more. He has a strong background in classical guitar, with decades of experience in performance and instruction. No matter what style, he can identify ways to improve your technique and expression, with lessons that apply to all genres. He patiently points out important lessons about hand positions, dynamics, tempo, and melody that begin to build up a strong basis of technique over the course of a few lessons. After several months of practicing these tips, I was surprised at how natural my guitar playing had become and how much my overall playing had improved. I strongly recommend Steven's instruction.

If you are looking for a piano instructor for yourself or, as in my case for a child. Let me HIGHLY recommend Daniel Castro. My son is 13 and has 3 levels of the bastien method under his belt, taught to him by his father. My criteria for an instructor was that he have some jazz background along with classical, as well as pop and rock etc. In other words fully rounded. I wanted someone who could ignite give my son the fundamentals that would allow him to open his ears and heart and create. And most of all my son had to like him. Bullseye. Daniel is a multi instrumentalist who has a love for exploring music in all its forms. He too is a student always learning. In my case Daniel has used jazz and blues as the entry way. We are 3 lessons in and he has my son swinging. Which in jazz is the life blood. I listen from afar to each lesson and I can hear that Daniel is patiently and intuitively laying a foundation block by block that will provide a launch pad for my son to not only explore music as it is, but also unlock his own inner creativety through improvisation. As well as the fundamentals that will allow my son to move in whichever direction he wishes to take it should he decide to continue with music later on. I hear my son opening up on the piano now when he practices and its only lesson 3.Daniel does it in such a warm, unhurried, encouraging manner that it is almost a peer to peer relationship. Daniel is intellegient, professional, very personable and always a gentleman. And I appreciate that. Whatever discipline you or your child are pursuing, I have no doubt that Daniel Castro can instinctually provide you a personal, customized lesson plan to move you towards your destination. My highest regard.

I started Playing at 50 off and on but know that I have retired I can pursue my dream. Bryson did the first 3 things a teacher must do, Listen, Listen, Listen. to what my drive and level of my playing is. He has started putting My Lesson plan together to fit me and my ability. In my past life I was a corporate trainer for Sysco Food Service and trained 100s of salespeople and Bryson has it down, if you want to learn this is your last stop

I can not recommend him enough. Richard is one of the most patient, dedicated, focused, fun and passionate teachers I’ve ever had. He’s smart and creative and makes learning guitar really a joy. I’m a professional musician and he helped take my playing to the next level. I’ve seen him do the same with beginners, so no matter your experience, Richard will take your playing to the next level
