Rare Bird offers a carefully curated selection of workshops in art, crafts, meditation and magic in our Makers' Studio. We also lead team building workshops and private parties. Classes are led by the Erica, our founder and over 45 artists from the Bay Area.

I am patient, enthusiastic, understanding, and an excellent communicator. Additionally, I have decades of experience in sewing and have sewn and sold women's clothing, hats, bags; costumes for dancers, theater, and other performers; and soft goods for the home (e.i. drapes, pillows, bedding, etc.). I have an extensive background in all types of sewing, patterning,draping, and construction. In addition, I also have a background in HANDSEWING techniques- embroidery, quilting, fabric piecing, as well as fabric dyeing and weaving.
s hold a MFA from Tisch School of the Arts, NYU in Costume and Lighting Design for Theatre. While attending grad school, I worked in the major costume shops in NYC and regionally. Old time skills inform modern living. I was reared by a Jamaican suffragette who raced bicycles in the 1900's before moving to Harlem in early 1929, in time for the artistic revolution that was the Harlem Renaissance. She survived the Great Depression and her family thrived!
Sewing, cooking and gardening were skills for empowerment for women because your self-sufficiency meant freedom for you, your husband, your children and your whole community. I carry the lessons forward into the 21st Century.
