Geoff F. says, "Coach Deep did an excellent job teaching my 11 now 12 year son fundamental football skills. He focused on specific football routines - squats, high knees, lunges, etc.. My sons main focus was wide receiver. Coach performed specific hand eye coordination, catching, route running drills. Over a year of training my son went from having a hard time catching a football to catching almost anything thrown his way greatly increasing his confidence. I look forward to using him again in the near future." Read more

Nikita O. says, "Aaron is such an amazing coach. He's been working with my son for almost 2 years and he's made such significant progress. He's patient, kind and personable, but also knows when to implement more structure. My son adores him, they've built such a great connection. The skills and drills he utilizes during sessions are tailored to my sons needs and abilities. And he also uses step-by-step instructions which he models for my son and is instrumental to my sons visual learning style. My son started playing on a basketball team thanks to the confidence and determination he's gained from working with Aaron. " Read more

Kyle H. says, "My son has been developing and in his skills and and fundamentals. I used to Coach basketball and so I can get a little picky when it comes to what I want my son doing, but Strength 2 Strength exceeded my expectations and and went above and beyond with him, identifying his weaknesses and working with him every week to be a better ball player. Hard to one on one training. What really had me bring my son here was the Infinite Program. I’ve never heard anything like it, so I got on the phone with one of the directors and they were able to walk me through each program. I especially appreciate Coach Vincent and his time. He comes to every training with energy and specific drills for my son. " Read more

Your Basketball Training questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.

How much does a personal basketball trainer cost?

The average cost of a personal basketball trainer ranges from $30 to $150 per hour for one-on-one sessions. The cost can be influenced by factors such as the player's level (beginner, intermediate, or advanced), the trainer's experience and expertise, and the location where the training takes place.

Additionally, small group sessions of 2 to 4 children can cost $30 to $50 per session on average, while large group training of 4+ kids can cost $20 to $40 per session on average

How do you train for basketball?

A well-rounded basketball training regimen should include skill-specific workouts, strength and conditioning exercises, and a structured training program. Skill development includes shooting workouts, ball handling drills, and training tailored to your position, whether you’re a guard or post player.

Strength and conditioning exercises such as aerobic training and strength training for primary muscle groups like hips, quads, and glutes are critical. A structured 6-week training program that emphasizes form, technique, and skill progression should improve your game.

How many hours do basketball players train a week?

Basketball players, especially those aiming to improve their skills, may train for around 10 to 15 hours per week, depending on the level of their game. The specific distribution of training hours across skill development, strength training, and other aspects can vary based on individual needs and goals.

However, much of that training time does not require an instructor. Shooting hoops, working out at the gym, and playing pick-up games all count toward the total training time.

Is strength training important for basketball?

Yes, strengthtraining is essential for basketball players as it aids in the development of speed strength, absolute strength, and core strength. It boosts blast impulse, the ability to generate force rapidly, crucial for activities like jumping for rebounds and swift changes in direction.

Additionally, strength training enhances power output and agility, allowing players to respond quickly to on-court situations and maintain an edge over their opponents.

What questions should I ask a basketball trainer?

Ask these questions when picking a basketball trainer to help you meet your goals:

  • What is your background and experience in basketball training?
  • Have you worked with players at my skill level or position before?
  • What is your coaching philosophy and training style?
  • How do you tailor your training programs to individual needs?
  • What specific skills and aspects of the game do you emphasize in your training sessions?
  • How do you address both physical and mental aspects of player development?
  • Do you conduct initial assessments to identify strengths and areas for improvement?
  • How do you track and measure a player's progress over time?
  • How do you incorporate injury prevention strategies into your training programs?
  • What steps do you take to ensure the well-being of your athletes?
  • What is your availability for training sessions?
  • How do you handle scheduling and potential conflicts?
  • How do you communicate with players and provide feedback?
  • What role do players and parents/guardians play in the feedback process?
  • What are your fees and payment structure?
  • Are there any long-term commitments or package deals available?
  • Can you provide references from previous clients or players you have trained?
  • How do you work with players to set and achieve realistic goals?
  • What expectations do you have for players in terms of commitment and effort?

How do I choose a basketball trainer?

When selecting a basketball trainer, consider the following tips:

  • Look for a trainer with a solid background and experience in basketball training. Ideally, they should have worked with players at your skill level or in your position.
  • Understand the trainer's coaching philosophy and training style. Ensure it aligns with your goals and preferences for skill development.
  • Inquire about the specific skills and aspects of the game that the trainer emphasizes. Make sure they cover the areas you want to improve.
  • Check if the trainer conducts initial assessments to identify areas for improvement.
  • Ensure the trainer incorporates injury prevention strategies into their programs.
  • Consider the trainer's communication style, which is vital for a successful training relationship.
  • Verify the trainer's availability for sessions fits your routine.
  • Seek references from previous clients or players the trainer has worked with.
  • Understand the trainer's fees and payment structure.

Reviews for Dana Point basketball trainers

Coach Deep did a great job of working with my 9 year old on QB skills as well as general fitness training and good athlete discipline and habits. His correction to my son’s deep pass throwing mechanics definitely made a noticeable difference this season for our team resulting in more touchdowns and less interceptions. He has and teaches a great work ethic that goes beyond just the sport.

I’m beyond stoked on Quacy! He’s been training me for the past 3 months and IVE NEVER FELT THIS GOOD BEFORE! Not only is my physical game on point but Quacy is so motivating and inspiring that my mental game is on point to! His knowledge of the body and movements is keys. I have muscles in places I didn’t even know existed! He’s super committed and consistent that I now wake up before my 6am gym alarm goes off.. and I’m not a morning person so there’s a lot of stoke there! 10/10 would 1000 percent recommend! Wanna get strong, feel good and have support.. Quacy Jordan is your man! Thank you thank you thank you Q!

I’ve been working with David for about six months now and I can’t say enough about how easy he has made my transition into weightlifting. His plans are always changing so I don’t get bored and he sends along great YouTube videos to make sure I understand all of the exercises. Results wise I have so much more tone and definition! I look strong but more importantly I’m getting stronger! David is super responsive when I have an injury and works around it but also works to strengthen the muscles to help me heal and prevent another injury. Honestly if you’re on the fence- just try it, in a few weeks time you’ll be thanking your lucky stars that you did!
