About
Our Philosophy is to educate our students, and give them the proper tools to keep their golf game on a steady progression upwards.
There will always be ups and downs in a golfer's career, and our job at mikesogacademy is to make sure the student has a blueprint they can fall back on to get back on track.
We want to make the student aware of not only proper swing fundamentals, but also the mental side, the course management side, and the short game side.
Within these categories mikesogacademy will educate the student on definitions, proper fundamentals, proper technique, and proper on-course procedures. All the while individualizing this education process to the particular student.

I enjoy taking my students goals, and turning them into reality. I constantly get texts and emails from students showing me their lowest scores, them attaining positions in the golf swing, how they made the right choice through proper course management, and in general how they are improving! It makes my job very much more enjoyable, and it gives me a sense of purpose!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first step is to send over my student questionnaire to the prospective student. The questionnaire will help me get up to date with the student's current knowledge of the game, and as well as their instructional history.
From this point I will send them over the student assessment. This assessment will allow me to "check under the hood" in a sense. It is very easy to follow, and it also comes with a "how to" video on conducting the assessment. The data I will recieve from the assessment, as well as the student questionnaire will allow me to create an individual "blueprint" or a game plan on the next steps needed for improvement.

How did you get started teaching?
Both my parents were teachers growing up.... So let's just say I was introduced to it at a young age.
My dream was always to become a professional athlete. Whether it be basketball, golf, etc. I still have desires to play in professional events, but do not see it as my career.
More and more I enjoy helping others get better at the game, rather than winning trophies!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all levels of students!
Beginners: I get focused on solid contact, two putting from everywhere, broader knowledge of the game, and proper course management. I find beginners to be the most rewarding lessons!
Intermediate: I get focused on acquring new skill sets. I.E. learning to draw the ball, and different trajectories. Pitching/Chipping I focus their attention on the 5 ft. circle!! Course Management establishing how to beat their handicap with course strategy
Expert: Eliminating their big miss, learning how to control their distances through the bag, finding their go to shot, figuring out what holes are birdie holes/go for it holes, dialing in short game technique with attention to little details like alignment, starting line, trajectory control, different spin etc.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
The first step to finding your ideal teacher, is being honest with yourself. Figure out what you want when being educated.
Look back at your time in school, and remember that one teacher that made everything click for you. Find that Teacher!!!
You can find someone that is the most educated teacher in the world, but if you as a student are motivated by them to improve... you're not going to improve.
Always surround yourself with people that are going to challenge you in a positive way. Your teacher should do this!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Always ask a question that is on your mind. The teacher will then let you know if your particular question has relevance to your improvement. If it does not, let the question fade away.
Too many times I've seen students dwell on a question that has no relevance to their improvement to the point it causes them to regress. They start blaming the instructor, and then start looking for a new swing coach.
Many times I will see this player later down the road, and they will tell me they've had 8 instructors in a year!!
Don't be this student. They have a fixed mindset, and will never attain their goals with their current thinking capacity.
Us instructors... are not bad guys lol!! We want to see you guys get better. Personally it allows me to feel like I have some purpose, as well if none of our students got better... we'd be out of business!!
