About
(Sorry, I DO NOT WORK WITH CHILDREN UNDER 16 YEARS OLD).
I played golf in high school and have continued to play ever since I started in 1970. Although injuries have diminshed my distance, I played frequently up until the pandemic; the last three rounds I played I made a combined six birdies, including just missing a hole in one by six inches.
I practice regularly, and provide the range balls for the lessons and hit along side my students. I also video their swing, and send them those, along with other helpful resources they can refer to in working independently on their own swing.
As a long time elementary teacher, principal and sports coach I know how to break down skills into parts, especially in golf and have had success teaching many of my friends and all three of my daughters. I am good at diagnosing and correcting any fundamental issues and making small corrections that make a big difference. I can draw and fade the ball at will and can teach the short game fundamentals as well.
Many people struggle with the game needlessly, as I notice during all the weeks I spend on the range. Many of them have just one problem I can fix pretty quickly.
I enjoy passing on knowledge and skills I acquired over a large period of time and the enjoyment of the game that comes from competence and confidence; it is what I try to pass on to anyone who wants the help.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I watch them hit some balls and determine if their stance and grip is correct. If not we start there. If so, I look at their takeaway and their hand positions, the plane of the swing, and their first downward move. Usually that is where the changes need to be made.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've been playing golf for 53 years, I basically grew up on a golf course as a caddy, golf shop assistant, and high school player. Our golf team were league champions every year I played, and won the Central Section title on of those years.
I have been informally teaching golf during that time, helping friends and family members, including my three daughters. I also have been approached by people on the range which I go to regularly and have always been glad to help anybody who asks. I practice much more than I play.
I was also a teacher, principal, and coach in Fresno Unified and coached every sport in elementary, and girls basketball at Edison high school, which involves breaking down skills into smallest possible parts, like the golf swing.
