About this pro

I LOVE KUNG FU! It is challenging to find traditional Chinese Martial Arts, but I was very fortunate to find my Sifu in Miami at KungFu Connection who has an ancient lineage. I am now his disciple and love sharing these beautiful life changing arts to students of all ages. With both the external arts like Kung Fu or the internal such as Taichi you find a balanced lifestyle that strengthens the mind, body and spirit. Chinese Martial Arts is the grandfather to all Asian Martial Arts. It's an amazing work out, but what I love about it is that it is in line with health. I've been teaching for 15 years in Miami and have had great success helping students with all types of disabilities. These arts have transformed my life. I look forward to sharing these empowering methods to you in the attempt to help you live a happier, healthier life. And the  ultimate goal of making the world a better place.

love and light

It has helped me immensely throughout my life. Even though I haven't practiced in a bit, I find myself reflecting on what I've been taught every day. It is one of the most valuable experiences in my life, no doubt thanks to my teacher.

I have had the opportunity to work with Donovan Cecil for many years. He is a wonderful instructor, both full of life and positivity. If you want to learn the Traditional Chinese Arts look no further.

  • Hugo Perez

Donovan is an excellent instructor, and one who taught me Kung Fu and Tai Chi for seven years. Under Donovan’s instruction, I learned Shaolin Kung-Fu forms and applications as well as Yang-style Tai Chi. You cannot find a better martial arts instructor anywhere, at any price.

This man is an inspiration for bettering oneself. I wouldn’t be where I am today without my dear Kung fu brother. He’s understanding, knowledge and skills in the Chinese martial art are for most valuable. I miss not being able to continu studying with Sihing Donovan on a dayli basis.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

First, I would like to know what you would like to accomplish in a Martial Arts Program.

I start all students with basics so that you develop the proper skills necessary to do it safely and effectively.

If you are looking for relaxation, health, self control, or raising your level of consciousness, Taichi is for you.

If you are looking for self-defense, fitness, flexibility,or strengthening your confidence, Kung Fu is the path you seek.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Traditionally trained 6 days a week in many different styles of KungFu and Taichi by Sifu Gustavo Rubio. I became a certified instructor at the age of 17 at Kung Fu Connection and later a disciple. I have been teaching group and private classes in after-school programs, community centers, hospitals and much more for 15 years now.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

Group classes $30 per person

Private classes $60 an hour

1 hour

How did you get started teaching?

Long story short...

I knew I wanted to do Kungfu for a living from the age of 6. When I met my teacher I devoted all my time to helping the school. I started as an assistant but quickly was entrusted in leading group classes. I ended up teaching around 40 classes a week all over Miami. Good thing I love it ;)

I am new to LA and cannot wait to connect to the community.

What types of students have you worked with?

Children from the age of 4, adults, and seniors.

My oldest student was 102! So you are not too old to start.

I've also taught people with disabilities such as MS, Parkinsons, Cancer, and Huntingtons.

If you suffer from these or from Asthma, Anxiety, Insomnia or Arthritis these ancient arts are great for improvement.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I don't know about events but

I love sound healing with singing bowls, drum circles, archery, and just about anything out in nature.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Get as much background info as you can on the teacher to spare yourself any disappointment.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

What do you hope to accomplish in a Kungfu or Taichi program?

Do you have any medical concerns or injuries?
