Peck Farm
About
I have 14 licenses to do what I do and am a Licensed USHJA Trainer, Licensed winning Thoroughbred Racehorse Trainer, Exercise Rider and Pony Person in Ca and Ky for 40 years, Breeder, and am a Horse Show Judge and Appraiser. I have been riding for 70 years, teaching for 55 years. Still riding, jumping, and showing. I own Peck Farm in Moorpark, 125 Professional Training and Boarding horse facility. I teach the George Morris style of Hunters and Jumpers. And I also teach Western. I am more like a football coach than a Sunday school teacher. We have lesson horses and go to shows about once a month. I do boarding, training, lessons and sales. We have garnered year end Champions on our local horse show circuit. We show wherever the students and horses have a good chance of winning. Attention to Detail is my mantra.
Horses are my life's passion. I thoroughly enjoy when a student makes progress and connects with the horse.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I ask any new student their goals so I know what they would like to work on. I like to give them a one hour evaluation lesson on their horse or mine. Then I can find out what they know. If a beginner, I can do a half hour evaluation. We teach them to go get the horse, halter, lead, brush, clean feet, saddle and bridle, ride. Then dismount, untack, feed carrots, and return horse to corral. They learn all the aspects of horse care, responsibility, and discipline.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have ridden horses my entire life, starting at age 3. I have ridden 70 years, and taught for 55 years. Still riding, jumping and showing. I have trained and shown with the best trainers I can find. I constantly ride or audit clinics. I have 14 licenses to do what I do in Ca and Ky. I am a licensed Owner, Appraiser, Breeder, Thoroughbred Racehorse Trainer, Licensed Hunter Jumper Trainer and a carded horse show Judge. I am also CPR and Safe Sport Trained, keeping credentials current.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My prices are $80 for a one hour private lesson, $55 for a half hour private lesson, and $55 for a one hour group lesson. If you pay for four or more lessons in advance, I discount your lesson package $5.00 per lesson. So 4 lessons a month, my minimum, would be $200 for a one hour group or half hour private. I prefer to teach Tues, Thurs, and Saturday, but can make room other days.
How did you get started teaching?
Started riding at age 3. Was given my first horse at age 10 and started showing. Rode Arabians in exchange for lessons when teenager. Rode Thoroughbreds in my 20's in exchange for lessons with a couple of excellent trainers who helped make me what I am today. At age 18, people kept asking me to train them so they could ride like I did. I kept going from there. Ended up training Thoroughbred Race and Show Jumping horses which I still do this day. Have won races at Santa Anita, Hollywood Park, and have garnered year end H/J Show championships with students and horses I have started from scratch.
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages, 3 to 63, but would like to expand my teenage Hunter Jumper show team with their own horses or lease horses or looking to buy their own horse that I can help them with. I also thoroughly enjoy training horses and seeing them grow.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I took some students to a local horse show. Everyone came home with ribbons in each class. One student who has been with me from the beginning brought home show jumping champion for the day. That makes me so proud of their work and accomplishments! Another show my students kept getting first, second and third in almost every class.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
A Coach is someone who always makes you do what you don't want to do, so you can be who you've always wanted to be. There is no glory in practice, but without practice, there is no glory!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
How serious are they? Are they willing to put in the work and ride consistently? What are their goals? Can they afford this sport? Are they willing to listen to their coach? Can they take advice and coaching from a professional? How much do they want to learn? Are they willing to put in the work needed in order to be an athlete with their horse?
