About

Coach Brian is a Temecula-based PGA Class A Associate and golf instructor apprenticing under Coach Randy Chang, PGA, at Journey at Pechanga Resort & Spa, one of Southern California's premier resort golf facilities. Alongside Coach Randy, he helps lead junior leagues, junior development programs, and PGA HOPE programming, bringing the same intensity and care to the lesson tee that defined his years in uniform.

Long before he was a golf coach, Coach Brian was leading Soldiers. A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and a commissioned U.S. Army officer for nearly six years, he led teams across multiple disciplines, culminating in command of a recruiting company responsible for the second-largest recruiting region in Southern California, leading 50+ personnel while turning a struggling unit into a consistent top performer. Those same skills translate directly into how he coaches: structured, goal-driven, and deeply invested in each player's growth. A former collegiate boxer at West Point, he knows firsthand what it takes to perform under pressure, harness grit, and develop mental toughness — and that experience runs through everything he brings to lessons.

His path into golf instruction was intentional. After transitioning out of the Army, Coach Brian brought that same discipline to the game. He secured his PGA Class A Associate status, is aggressively pursuing full PGA Class A membership, enrolled in the Professional Golf Management program at Professional Golfers Career College (PGCC) in Temecula, and obtained his PGA HOPE Instructor certification to serve veterans and active-duty service members through the sport he loves.

Coach Brian's instruction philosophy starts with a simple but often overlooked truth: every golfer is an athlete, and no two athletes are the same. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all method, he takes the time to understand each player's physical tendencies, learning style, and goals before a single swing tip is given. From there, he builds instruction around the individual. Working with junior golfers holds a special place in his coaching, believing that the habits and mindset built early in a golfer's development can shape not just their game, but their character.

Coach Brian believes the fastest path to real improvement runs through the scoring zones. His approach to chipping, pitching, and putting is detail-oriented and systematic, giving players the kind of repeatable technique that holds up when it counts. He applies the same analytical lens to full swing mechanics, breaking down movement in ways that are clear, actionable, and built to last, not just feel good on the range. But technique is only part of the equation. Coach Brian layers in the elements that separate good golfers from great ones: process goals over outcomes, resilience over perfection, and smart course management over raw power. His military background shaped a coaching style that is structured and demanding, yet patient and encouraging because real development takes time, and every player deserves instruction that works with them.

Off the course, Coach Brian remains deeply connected to the institutions and communities that shaped him. He serves as a board member for the Folds of Honor Southern California Chapter, helping raise scholarship funds for families of fallen and disabled service members and first responders through charity golf events. He also volunteers as a local Field Force representative for West Point, guiding the next generation of cadet candidates through one of the most competitive admissions processes in the country, drawing on his own experience navigating that journey as a first-generation Korean-American. Coach Brian shares his Temecula home with his girlfriend and their three dogs.
