I have 7 years of tutoring experience with students ages 11-40, and currently tutor chemistry, biology, physics, math, statistics, calculus, SAT/ACT test prep, and essay-writing. I have worked with students from diverse backgrounds, including students with learning differences/disabilities, ADHD, and processing disorders. I strive to tailor my approach to each student's unique needs. Students enjoy working with me because I am understanding and sensitive to the various hardships and barriers issues that high schoolers experience. I am a recent college graduate with a degree in Material Science and Engineering, so my classroom experience is quite fresh in mind. I am currently working as a Process Engineer at Lam Research, and prior to this employment, I worked as a paid Research Assistant at San Jose State, giving me both academic and corporate experience. I have a deep passion for learning and teaching and plan to pursue a Masters in Material Science followed by a Degree in Education. In high school, I struggled with Math and Chemistry, and it was not until my freshman year of college I worked with a tutor that changed my perspective on the subjects and even ended up

I prioritize mindfullness and enjoyment with math. Learning is not about memorization, but about understanding. In order to understand something, you need to care enough about it to pursue your wonder. For that reason, I've laid out the perfect blueprint for teaching math to my students.
Hello Students and Parents of Students! My name is Derek J. DeRouen, and I have been tutoring in many different settings for about 2-3 years now. Being both a private and a 3-1 office-setting tutor, there are very few types of students I have not met.
I went to college at UC Berkeley and graduated with a degree in Cognitive Science. I am currently pursuing another degree in Physics.
The joy I get when I can make something clear to a student, coupled with that "ah-ha" moment in his or her eyes is what makes me love this job.
Please feel free to contact me anytime, with any question, and ask me how I can help you with the subject in which

Hey Wonderful Parents (or Legal Guardians)-
My name is Derek J. DeRouen, and I am a great tutor. I will be honest, I have not tutored since I myself was in High School; however, I have a great knowledge base and understanding of many concepts.
In High School I graduated with a 4.8 and scored a 2200 on my SATs. I would love to help the next generation of students find The Love of Learning as I did.
I went to UC Berkeley and received a degree in Cognitive Science after changing from Chemical Engineering.

Hi, and thank you for viewing my profile.
If you, your friend or family member (of any age) struggles with math or simply requires a little assistance in preparation for an upcoming exam, I am here to help!

The key to success in math lies in creating simplified, intuitive explanations. Unforgivably complex explanations offered by most teachers and textbooks do nothing to aid a student's understanding of the subject, which so often leads to them believing that they are "just bad at math".

The lessons will take place via Zoom. I adjust lesson plans according to age level, grade standards, child ability, and parent requests. I evaluate the child from the first session. Afterwards, I will create lesson plans to fit the needs of the child. I am always willing to listen to any additional parent suggestions and change the lesson structure accordingly before finalizing. Additionally, I create fun and visually appealing slideshows to make the online experience exciting and interesting for the child. Please send me a message and we can figure out a time and date that works.

I will only take on a small number of students so that I can direct as much energy and attention to them as possible.
As someone who recently completed AP and college programs, I can relate to what your student may be going through and pass on what I have learned along the way.
