Hi, my name is Coach Tarra and I am a golf instructor in the Coachella Valley.
I have been playing golf for over 40 years and teaching for the last 20 years. Golf is my passion! I have worked with students of all ages and backgrounds. Everyone has a different challenge when it comes to golf. I methodically work through all stages of the game to achieve the goals my students desire. Just as important as learning the mechanics of the golf swing is learning the principles of the game of golf including the rules and etiquette. The beauty of the game of golf is that it is a game of honor, integrity, responsibility, sportsmanship, and respect for the course and others - all core values that permeate through everyday life and thus are great values not just for juniors, but for all players.

She’s the best! I’m a beginner golfing. We started with the fundamentals of putting and chipping which makes a lot a sense to get the correct motion down first! She’s very easy to understand and she explains everything clearly and logistically. I really enjoy my lessons with her and starting to really enjoy golf as well!

My previous golf instruction has been from Golf Club Professionals. I would describe these lessons as unsuccessful. Their teaching strategy was focused on watching my golf swing for a lengthy period of time. Then, one or two changes would be suggested. I rarely received good information on how to orchestrate the suggested changes.
Tarra is a true teacher of the game. Her focus was not on my current golf swing, but rather, she provided me with the fundamentals and science behind the golf swing. She began with Putting, then Chipping, then Pitching, and then to the Driving Range for the full Swing. I was skeptical at first, but this approach was exactly what I needed. I have reduced my handicap and I am better equipped to make small changes while I am on the golf course. Good job Tarra!

My first lesson with Tarra showed me the first steps to improving my putting. Tarra was great at hearing what I want to accomplish around the short game and gave me homework to do before each lesson. I’ve taken a few lessons from other teachers before, but Tarra recognizes what I do and her teaching adapts to it. This is the first time in a long time I feel like there’s hope, and a direction to go, to finally truly improve.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I guide students in mastering all clubs through a structured series of golf drills and practice sessions. Upon establishing goals and objectives, our initial lesson focuses on assessing your short game proficiency. For beginners, we start with the fundamentals of putting, chipping, and pitching before progressing to mastering the long game on the range. Once students are adept at striking the ball, we transition to a par 3, 9-hole course to hone golf strategy while actively keeping score. I eagerly anticipate assisting you in achieving your golf aspirations while ensuring an enjoyable experience. See you out on the course!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
With over four decades of playing expertise and two decades of teaching background, I bring a wealth of experience to both individual and group instruction. My tenure as a golf instructor spans various esteemed establishments, including Total Golf Adventures (TGA) in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Palm Springs, and Rancho Mirage, as well as The Better Golf Academy in Huntington Beach. Additionally, I've had the privilege of coaching the JV and Varsity Golf teams at Palm Springs High School.

I instruct a diverse range of golfers, encompassing kids, juniors, high school students, individuals, and couples, as well as small and large groups.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I'm delighted to share a couple of recent student successes and memorable moments: One student joyfully texted me to announce her first birdie on the course. Additionally, after just nine lessons focusing on mastering the short game with my beginner players, they are confidently tackling 9-hole par 3 courses, scoring just 1 or 2 over par, all the while mastering the art of scoring and reveling in the game.
