Debbie Steglic is a wonderful horse trainer! Her many years of study and applying that learning to training her own horses have given her the skills to help others. Debbie has the ability to quickly analyze what the horse and rider need in order to be an effective team. She then develops a plan to train the rider to more effectively communicate with the horse by using proper queues, timing of pressure/releases, and positive reinforcement. Before I started working with Debbie, I had worked with a number of other trainers. No one has helped me improve my success with my horse like she has! She helped me solve multiple problems, including resistance, biting, and lack of impulsion. Debbie is very patient and stresses the importance of making baby steps toward continuously improving horse and rider performance. She does not expect her students to be perfect! Debbie is very flexible and has the depth of knowledge that allows her to come up with many different solutions to solve horse and rider issues. She experiments with these various tools until she finds the ones that work best for a specific horse and rider team. There are no “canned solutions!” Before I started working with Debbie, I was frustrated, made excuses for not riding, and was ready to sell my horse. Now, I am eager to spend time in the saddle, and my horse has a smile on his face and a soft swing in his tail! I highly recommend Debbie to anyone who wants to improve horse communication, technical skills and develop a better partnership with their horse! --Donna Tierney *****

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I talk to the student to find out what their desires and dreams are with their horse and I create a plan to help the student achieve their goals. If the student has challenges with their horse, I help them both to overcome the challenges so they can both begin to have fun together! Once the student builds a strong foundation with their horse they can achieve anything!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am a Parelli Level 4 graduate. I have studied horse psychology and horse behavior. I have helped many students achieve their dreams with their horse! That is my passion!

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

$60 a lesson for students. Extra charge for Lessons outside on the Ramoa area unless the student trailers to my facility.

I offer boarding for students that have lessons at least twice a week at a discounted rate.

How did you get started teaching?

once I graduated from the Parelli program I became passionate about helping people solve their horse related problems so that they could get back to the dream of having fun with their horse!

What types of students have you worked with?

students with young horses that needed to build a strong foundation.

students that had lost the joy of having a horse because they had more problems than answers.

students that had problems with their horse that they did not know how to fix

students that wanted to gain more knowledge

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

Today was one of my students birthday. She has a yearling colt and we videotaped her loading her foal into the horse trailer with the horse walking by her side and the lead rope was draped over the foals back. So the foal loaded himself. It was only the 3rd session working with the trailer. It was a great birthday present for her!

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

choose a instructor that teaches in a way that brings out the best part of your horse. Make sure that the instructor understands the horse language and horse psychology well enough that the horse finishes each session feeling like a winner. It is important that instructor looks for moments to reward the horse in order to build the horses confidence!

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

What are your dreams with your horse?

What challenges do you or your horse need to overcome?

How much time do you have per week to work on your horsemanship goals?
