Hillside Training Stables
About
We specialize in Beginners of all ages, but we do teach all levels of riding. We have 12 lesson horses rangeing from beginner to advanced. We are a natural aides training stable and teach you to communicate to the horse in their language which enables you to one day own your own horse should you so choose. Safety is a major focus here. Kathy received her BHSAI Degree in England in 1973. We have been teaching students for over 42 years.
I love watching my students learn how to ride and control a horse and gain confidence and get much joy from these wonderful creatures. Horses are also very therapeutic for all ages.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
New students are taught how to prepare the horse to ride, then begin in private lessons first on a lunge line and then working independently on the rail. They learn about horse psychology, how to communicate to the horses, to respect and be kind to them. They begin at the walk then quickly move onto the trot, learning basic exercises that help them with their balance and proper use of their seat and legs. All lessons are progressive, depending on the individual student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
In 1973 I attended Porlock Vale Equestrian School in Sommerset, England and received my B.H.S.A.I. degree. In 1974 I attended Pacific Horse Center (now Brookside Equestion) in Elk Grove, CA and received my A.H.S.A.I. degree. I began my own business in 1976 in Los Angeles before moving to Sacramento, CA in 1986.

How did you get started teaching?
Kathy began riding when she was 3 on ponies at an amusement park. By 6 she was renting trail horses weekly and at 15 finally got her own horse! After High Schoo she attended the school in England and aspired to go into the Olympics. That demanded 7 days per week riding horses so teaching others to ride was the best way to do that. While never actually making the Olympics she learned to love teaching others her passion of riding horses.
What types of students have you worked with?
We have taught students ages 3 to 83, at all levels of riding experience. We have worked with High functioning Autistic kids and adults as well and found horse riding to be very beneficial for them.
