About this pro

SL Barrel Horses started in a 2012 as a traveling barn giving lessons and helping owners with horses. In 2015, we received the opportunity to move to a permanent location where we teach barrel racing/gymkhana/general horsemanship lessons to beginners up to advanced youth and adult students. We offer lessons on our school horses or you can haul in and we can help you with your horses. We also offer training services.

I love watching the "ahh" moments of students and horses alike. I enjoy sharing my passion of barrel racing and horses with others and watching them progress.

I prefer the trainers I work with to be direct and honest. Being in the industry it’s difficult not to find someone who tends to not. I appreciate all of Sarah’s honesty. She gives me things to work on with my mare and I enjoy her attitude and energy. Highly recommend from beginners to advanced riders.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I offer an evaluation lesson that usually lasts about 1.5 hours to assess where each student is at. I have a questionnaire that I give to each new student so I can get to know each better.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I started working as an instructor in 2003 at a local barn and have since worked for a few other horse trainers to learn as much as I can. I went to college and majored in equine science and attend as many clinics with other equine professionals as often as possible.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

30 mintue lesson: $35/each

1 hour lesson: $75/each

I offer packages at discounted prices.

What types of students have you worked with?

I work with all kinds of students. The levels and skills of each student varies. I also work some students that have learning disablilities and anxiety, but a few adult students who struggle with fear or have some physical limitations.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

We recently hosted out first gymkhana clinic with a local riding club and one of my students struggles with anxiety and shuts down when she doesn't understand something. All of my youth students had a fantastic clinic and all want to do it again.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
