What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first thing I like to do is to get to know my students and determine their goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a student of the game for 50 years. Golf is my passion and my job.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I sell my lesson packages in blocks of time. 100 hours, 50 hours, and 25 hours. My students determine how much time they want to use and what they want to do with their time. Range work, time on the course etc.
100 hrs @ $1800
50 hrs @ $1000
25 hrs @$700
How did you get started teaching?
I started working at the course in my home town when I was in my teens.
What types of students have you worked with?
Students of all ability levels. I have worked with beginners, High School, and Collegiate Athletes, as well as some Professional golfers on the PGA and LPGA Tours. My ultimate passion is help golfer's of all abilities to meet and exceed their personal goals. I really enjoy working with people that love the game.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I am proud that one of my long time junior students just received a scholarship to play golf in college. It was his goal from the time he started working with me at age 11.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a teacher that communicates simply. A teacher that wants to find what works best for each student. Not some method. Find a teacher that is going to be there for you. Someone that is going to be invested in your progress.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
1. Is this a person I want to spend time with?
2. Is teaching golf your full time job?
3. How many years of experience do they have?
4. Get an overview of their teaching style. Watch them teach another student.
