What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We like all students regardless of their experience to start in private lessons this allows them the chance to meet our horses and our staff without the pressures of rushing to meet a group after you are comfortable and able to tack and Ontak on your own we like students to ride in at least one group lesson a week because riding can become a very fun social activity
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
All trainers at Cottonwood Riding Club are certified to teach and train young horses these certifications or from the British horse society the certified horsemanship association and the US HJA

How did you get started teaching?
Cottonwood is a family owned and operated facility I personally started teaching when I was 13 years old and one of our instructors was sick I fell in love with the process and have been teaching ever since. our instructor Whitney grew up at Cottonwood started taking lessons when she was only seven years old and has made it her passion
What types of students have you worked with?
We work with very young very passionate little girls starting at the age of five all the way to adults who have always wanted to learn to ride but have never had the time or maybe even the finances to enjoy a passion that they have had their entire life we love sharing our passion with all horse enthusiasts
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My favorite event was just recently watching our interscholastic team show at a show that we hosted it was amazing to see teenagers come together work hard ride well and even though they were exhausted put smiles on share their love of their horse and be positive with all riders the sense of team and sportsmanship is always something I am passionate about
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Horses can be dangerous and there can be a lot of scary places out there look for a place that is safe clean and well organized if the horses are not well cared for or the place is run down it may be a reflection of the instruction and safety you will receive
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
The basic question is always have you taught someone like me whether you are very young and very excited to learn about horses or older and very nervous many instructors have an expertise and they can share that passion with you
