Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We asses what you are wanting to achieve in each session as well as skill level, do a personality sheet to pair you up with the right horse or evaluate you and your current horse you own. Connection is the first step and building block for success in riding comfortably and safely. We then will spend at least 10min of each session doing grounding work to assure you are connected with the horse for the day and if there is something that is troublesome we will asses this on a need to basis. We know life can drag us down and animals are very receptive to that so from a "whole" aspect we require you to be in the present for yourself and your horse! Its been proven this is much more effecive then just lunging and getting on, which can end in a bad experience if not mindful and aware everytime you step into the saddle.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Worked for hearts and horses for 3 years
nursing degree in nutrional science and addiction therapist
Trained and showed horses since I was 8 years old
Raised draft horses and helped granfather train them, also trained roping and barrel horses.
rehabiltate rescue horses
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
35-60 an hour depending on the level of rider and what you are wanting to achieve, the more detailed and competitive you want to become in an area the more knowledge it takes and experience from us so that adds value!
How did you get started teaching?
Gave lessons on the side when I worked for hearts and horses and focused on kids mostly. Got out of lessons for a while and focused mostly on the horses but miss the people and would love to start helping other out again!
What types of students have you worked with?
Primarly younger youth and young adults
Some older experienced riders that want to brush up on certian types of showing and competing
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure they have a kind heart and soft hands!! That they are still teachable as well and not just hardened to believe they know whats best and will not listen to a word you say. You know yourself and your horse better then anyone, I believe you hire a trainer to help you step out of your comfort zone but its ok to make sure we are all in safe place as we do so!!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Their objective and end goals!! BIGGIES for sure
