About this pro

I have been a sports professional for decades and worked hard to educate myself in order to be capable of offering ALL athletic services to prospective clients; skill instruction, strength, speed, and overall fitness, and finally the mental game.  Relative to "skill" instruction I played and have coached three sports at the collegiate level; was offered professional contracts in 2 sports.  Relative to fitness, strength, speed, and conditioning I have an undergraduate degree in exercise science and 15 certifications in fitness, speed, strength and conditioning as a personal trainer.  Finally in reference to helping clients with the mental skills such as confidence and focus, I am also a certified mental skills, peak performance coach; with certifications in NLP and Behavioral Change.  I have and currently work with all levels of athletes from youth through professional.  I also currently mentor high school athletes transitioning to college baseball and college athletes transitioning to professional baseball.  As both a physical and  mental skills coach I currently work with college and professional baseball players and sprinters; including a sprinter from India.

I have a website focused on mental skills at www.performunderpressuresports.com; a baseball information site; www.allballsnobull.com; and a website for our mentoring service for baseball players at www.gocollegegoprogohome.com.  I am attaching my resume below:

I love sports; not only for the physical excellence they require but for the CHARACTER issues; commitment to peak performance, mental discipline, and hard work ethic.  I have also worked obsessively to make myself into the best and most complete teacher/trainer I could be; continuing to further and expand upon my own education.  I especially love becoming educated in the mental aspects of sports performance which I feel are the "next" and greatest frontier of peak performance.  Above all else, I enjoy seeing my clients fulfill their ambitions and dreams.

I had always had a love affair with horses and bought my first horse with Karl and trained with him. Frankly I went from being perhaps overly confident to a quiet assured confidence based on knowledge and understanding of the horse, the situation, and most importantly myself. I knew I was capable. I knew I was going to do well. What Karl did to my mental game was amazing.

  • T. Barlow

I bought a barrel racing horse and, to tell the truth, I don’t know why I did because quite honestly I was terrified; terrified of the horse, of working with the horse, of showing; everything. What Karl did for me was amazing. I am not just riding, I am confident and aggressive and having a blast. Not a game changer; a mind changer.

Karl has done clinics throughout our area for years. He markets them as “problem solving” clinics … which they are … and he has NEVER not found a fix for a horse or a situation. As he often says, the problem often is the “situation” and the “job” the owner is asking the horse to do. If there is not a fit, there will be problems. So he is advertised as working with the horses; i.e. “problem” horses but the amazing thing that happens in the course of all this is that the owners and the riders gain confidence and, when you think about it, it makes perfect sense because they come in with a problem and NOT KNOWING how to fix it and then they leave with confidence because now they know. It is NOT a horse problem clinic it is a people problem clinic. He removes their fear and gives them confidence.

  • Amy Sperling

I have been showing hunter/jumpers for ten years and out of curiosity attended one of Karl’s clinics. His diagnosis of my issues was absolutely spot on. The exercises he gave me improved my riding 1000%. Of infinitely more importance was his diagnosis of my “show ring jitters”. He has quite literally given me a new “viewpoint”. I ride with confidence and joy.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

All instructional work begins with a two step process: (1. Where is the student at NOW; i.w. an evaluation of curent skill sets and (2. Where does the student want to go: i.e. "the goal".  I am very big on instruction and information.  All athletic movements are broken into "parts" with the whole movement being a composite of the parts. This way the student knows how to PREPARE and train themselves.  The most important aspect of this is NOT just correct execution but the ability to correct and adjust.  Secondarily I evaluate functionality and stability and strength and finally mental skills.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I played and have coached three sports at the collegiate level.  I have a degree in exercise science and multiple certifications in strength and conditioning and mental skills/peak performance coaching.  I have worked in minor league baseball; have consulted with playes transitioning from high school to college and college to professional and currently evaluate, teach, train and place athletes in college and professional baseball.  With equine sports I have been a college professor and have lectured extensively both here and abroad.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

The pricing in this area is something shaped geographically.  My standard starting rate is $80/hr.; space rentals are added on top.
